    Default Stingray Appreciation 2021

Of all the lesser known Avengers, there is Dr Walter Newel. Known as Stingray.

I always thought we wouldn’t see Stingray in the MCU, until Namor gets a movie in the MCU at the very least.

But I just realized there’s a big chance he’ll show up Rhodey’s show Armors Wars.

Hoping 2021 will be a big year for Stingray!

I've always liked Stingray - too often he wasn't used because folks would use Namor as the "go to water guy." Sigh.

My favorite appearance by him was the story that introduced him to me -- Marvel Two-In-One 64 illustrated by the great George Perez. That is a great costume that is just languishing in limbo!

The last I saw of Stingray was relatively recently in Avengers when Namor was "evil" and attacked him. What has he appeared in since then?
We are the Dora Milaje. We are the daughters of the 18 tribes of Wakanda. We are the teeth of the Panther God. Out of 10,000 years of sweat and bloodshed and battle are we born. We are the women of this ancient land. Deadliest of the species. And our time has come!

I don't think he's appeared anywhere else. I think he's still in the hospital after that attack.

I think you're right. People want to complain about the Aaron Avengers, which is totally their right to do, but at least Aaron left him alive and able to come back from the attack. Someone like Bendis would've killed him just to make Namor that much more "impressive."

I'm a big fan of him too...I liked the Nick Spencer Avengers World arc where Dr. Doom had to put together a makeshift Avengers team...Stingray, 3D Man, Elsa Bloodstone, etc. Those "quirky, last-minute" line-ups always make much more of an impact on me than a retread of the Cap/Thor/Tony stuff we've seen a billion times before.

Would love to see Walter on a West Coast Avengers lineup.

Stingray is cool, and super underused. What's also interesting about him is he's more of a real world scientist, interested in real world issues like marine biology and the health and welfare of the oceans, not the "super" science insanity of Reed, T'Challa, or Tony. Even the more comic booky science of designing his stingray suit was in service of science. He just wanted to be able to explore and research the oceans.

Always liked Stingray. Marvel , however doesn't seem to know what to do with water characters except Namor.

I've always had a odd liking for this character...I like his design.

The sharks just nibbled on him, I guess...

Ugh, dumb, useless scene. I hate how writers will throw vaguely related characters together with little thought.

Tiger Shark started as an air breather, and killed Namor's dad. I don't see Namor being that crazy to recruit him, especially mauling a friend while doing it.

He’s recruited Tiger Shark before though
