Yes, you can find 5 randoms, but the point of the story is we don't know what/who these guys are at all. Changing the characters fundamentally changes the story and by that point why? Cause a few people don't like new characters? Because they feel they're taking up spots for their preferred hero that wouldn't have been used anyway?

Kate doesn’t pass through, though. She literally hits a wall. Humans just pass through to the other side of the gate. The only ones are Horticulture that are able to hijack the gates (though I think Beast took care of that after he stole their tech.)

Not showing up on Cerebro to me also screams “not mutants”. Untrained, I doubt Marvel Guy could block all of them from showing up.

Honestly I am getting the suspicion that the original concept of this book was going to be about humans who through good deeds and showing their love and admiration for mutants were going to become mutants. Maybe through some tragedy or what not but non the less they were going to get the X gene.

The precedent is already there with Mr Sinister

The opening fight scene felt like a rejected bronze age Teen Titans issue from DC. There were some nods to it intentionally being written in a hokey way, but it's not any more entertaining when something corny knows it's corny.
The rest of the issue wasn't as bad, but it got off on a bad foot and never really recovered for me. Thumbs down.

Right! I get the frustration of them “taking up space” if there were only two other X-books, but there are 10!

Let's keep in mind that Vita Ayala uses they/them pronouns y'all.

I see some are getting "appropriation" mixed up with "appreciation"...again.
