I actually think it would have been a great story were it not for the insane changes to Diana's mythos. I stand by the fact that FB is a nice addition to Diana's villains and Azz's Eris is fun to play with every now and again.

But Ares being a teacher (and looking like Azz, as if he's self inserting to "teach" Diana to be a better character) with the amazons being murders, rapists, and child-traffickers and stuck in the bronze age as barbarians that are comically misandrists. And Diana's origin change, yeah there definitely more bad then good IMO, made it a deeply controversial run and frankly hated (somewhat deservedly so) here.

I definitely think it should’ve been Steve because the Diana-Steve/Circe-Odysseus parallel is actually one thing that I would love to see explored and contrasted between the two. There are some interesting similarities to be mined there that speak to how Diana and Circe are similar and how they’re different. But on the other hand Circe has now gotten wins over Batman and Superman which makes her the most dangerous WW Rogue by default now which makes me happy.

Lol, for years I never actually knew what Azz looked like so when I finally did and saw he was New 52 Ares basis that ruined that entire character for me. Doesn't help Perez's Ares was one of the few pre-New 52 god designs that was superior to their New 52 design.

Yeah, the main plot of Azz run was fine on paper to me (if stretched out too much for it's own good and Zola just wasn't an interesting character) but daddy Zeus and the Amazons are some major albatrosses around that run's neck. Which given those decisions originated with that run, it brought upon itself.

Yeah, the whole Ares thing felt more like fanservice.... for him. I didn't like the vast majority of the Nu52 god designs (you don't draw Poseidon with fish parts, that implies he's born of the sea, which he wasn't). I think of the designs; Hera, Hephaestus if he wasn't purple, Eris, Eros, Artemis and Apollo in their celestial forms were the best ones for me.

It dragged for sure, I forgot about that, hot potato with a baby can get stale when its the only thing that's happening for like 10 or so issues.

She's had more then one on each of them. Its nice to see Circe as someone not really to be F'ed with. She's had so little appearances after JLD that it was fun seeing her here, albeit as a historian.

She's also kinda in the main books back-ups, but we haven't seen Circe in the main book since Rucka and Scott had a little short story in the 750th issue and before that when she showed up in Rucka's run for like...one or two issues.

Heh, when reading it I assumed it'd be Batman given I've seen a lot of Odysseus/Batman comparisons similar to Superman/Hercules.

I actually agree it should've been Steve. But, the "thug" bit throws me off. Both Superman and Steve aren't thugs, so I'm not sure what Smythe was going for there. Maybe she read some of Siegel stories? Even there Superman isn't a thug. Just a man with a strict moral code against corruption and abuse of power. I can understand reading comments about the original Superman, I can see how one would think he's a thug.

In the end, I was being funny. I figured DC is allowing writers to tell what they want in these anthologies. Hopefully issue #3 has more Steve. I don't think he's appeared yet.

I think she was just poking fun at his expense which is fine lol, it’s not his book after all.

I didn't take it particularly seriously since the criticism is coming from Circe.

Steve should be in the next issue from the art shared by Megan Levens for her story.
