Default Scarecrow - an A-list Villain?

I was curious as to whether people consider Scarecrow an A-list Bat-villain. What are his great stories? Is he great as is, or does he need some work?

By the way, my own list of Bat villains (not necessarily who I like most, but who I think of as most prominent in Bat stories).

    A List
    Joker
    Two Face
    Catwoman
    Riddler
    Penguin
    Poison Ivy
    Harley
    Ra's
    Bane

    A/B List
    Talia
    Mr Freeze
    Scarecrow

    B List
    Mad Hatter
    Man Bat
    Killer Croc
    Clayface
    Hugo Strange
    Ventriloquist

I feel Scarecrow has supplanted Penguin. mostly due to appearances outside of comics.

    Nightwing (1996) #9-11
    Catwoman (1993) #58-60

Two of his best stories probably.

Did you like Scarecrow Year One and Heart of Hush? Those are the two I hold in high regard

The Brave and the Bold #197 but as a catalyst/framing device for Bruce's fears. He's physically only in it in the beginning but the toxin do the work throughout.

I don't think Bane shows up that much, and probably less than Freeze or even Clayface and Mad Hatter.
Ra's doesn't show much at all either.
    Since you're classifying by prominence.

Scarecrow is gread, did you read "Batman, the dark knight: Cycle of Violance ?"

I'd put ivy, Harley on the b list and ras on the a/b list.

If you think about their current prominance, i would re-rank your A list. Harley isn't a villain in comics anymore i'd say.

    Joker
    Harley
    Catwoman
    Bane
    Riddler
    Two-Face
    Ivy
    Penguin
    Ra's

    Absolutely!

I mean, such categorizations tend to be subjective, but if we're looking for an ''objective'' list of criteria (or something close to it), then I present:

    1. Scarecrow has appeared in a number of high-profile adaptations, including BTAS, Batman Begins, the Arkham games, and several more.

    2. He's got a long lineage, having appeared in the comics since the 40's with a fair degree of consistency.

    3. He's one of the most recognizable Batman villains to casual fans/audiences. Ask a random person with a general idea of Batman and his world to name some of the villains, and its pretty likely that Scarecrow will be on that list, after Joker, Penguin, Catwoman (assuming we're calling her a villain these days) etc.

Yeah, I don't really agree with this.

    A+ List

    The Joker

    A- List

    Two-Face
    Ra's Al Ghul
    Bane

I don't count either Catwoman or Harley because they're not featured as villains anymore. The Scarecrow is in the B List along with the Penguin, the Riddler, Poison Ivy and Talia Al Ghul. Mad Hatter, Man-Bat, Killer Croc, Clayface, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange and the Ventriloquist are in the C List mainly due to not a lot being done with them by comparison.

I know the redesigns done to BTAS weren't too favorable, but "Over the Edge" was most enjoyable and established Crane as an A-list threat (IMHO):

That's one of the few TNBA redesigns I like, nearly all of them suck. When I seek out B:TAS merchandise, I always look for that and leave things like TNBA figures. The red card B:TAS, blue card TNBA and orange card B:TAC are hard to get now and are expensive more so in their original packaging.

It seems Dini has a great grasp on Scarecrow since he wrote him very well in Over the Edge, Heart of Hush and the Arkham games.
