Leslie Grace cast as Barbara Gordon for the HBO Max series.

Okay... if this is taking place in continuity with the new Batman film, where Gordon is being played by Jeffrey Wright, I could go with this. If it's taking place in it's own continuity, however... Jesus F****** Christ. Can they PLEASE cast to the character that was established in the books for ONCE?!

Has it been said at all whether this is in the DCEU?

I just saw on Twitter (no idea if this is accurate or not) that this will NOT be connected with Matt Reeve's Batman. As for the general DCEU, well... they are doing a multiverse approach now, so who knows?

All I know is that this is being written by the writer of Birds of Prey, thus cementing my feeling that this person knows nothing about Batgirl, or any of the girls that have worn the cowl.

Very good choice. She was great in In The Heights.

Doesn't her casting imply we're going to get a hispanic Jim Gordon?

Christina Hodson, who gave us that fantabulous take on Cassandra Cain.

Well, supposedly the studio wouldn't let them do a more traditional version of Cass.

So what's their excuse for this? More studio mandates?

I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it! If they wanted to make a movie or series featuring a more diverse Batgirl, then Cassandra Cain is right there! Asian-American and, depending on what era you pull her from, could also be mute to feature a character with a disability.

Hell, if they were tying this into the Reeves Batman movie, I could go with it because I enjoy Jeffrey Wright as an actor and what I've seen of that movie so far I've liked. But to make it a project set in the DCEU, and still go for colorblind casting- at this point, it feels pandering and forced.

Well, at the end of the day, is her being diverse a bigger factor than her ability to portray Barbara Gordon's character? I don't think her race will impact the character at all or try and spin Batgirl as a hispanic character.
