Well I figure popularity comes and goes but there have been a few mainstays but a few characters have not only been popular but have spun off a number of characters. Either by publishers ripping them off or within the context of the stories.

    Spiderman Siderwomen, Scarlett spider, 2099
Hulk She Hulks Sampson, Rulk, Skar
Cap other caps, US Agent, Falcap, Bucky Cap, various Nomad
Wolverine Daken, X-23, the whole weapon x thing
Thor Beta ray, Eric, Val, She Thor
Hank Pym Ant men, Wasp, Goliaths, Giant Men, Yellowjackets
Tough to pick a 7th Iron man has a couple, Thing has had a few She things. Been a few Ghost Riders.

Like I posted not based on popularity but on impact across the comics.

Punisher has had three major movies and I see his symbol all over the place regularly. He's not in the same league as the big 6, but I think he should be considered.

The big question is who is the 7th big member? Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Wolverine easily hold the 6th place. I would have to go with Storm for a million different reasons followed closely by Deadpool. We're actually asking this question over on our website this month! www.marvel616politics.com and check out or facebook www.facebook.com/marve616politics

Just going by importance to the Marvel Universe and stories and not sales or popularity

    1- CAPTAIN AMERICA (Steve Rogers)
    2- IRON MAN (Tony Stark)
    3- MISTER FANTASTIC (Reed Richards)
    4- PROFESSOR X (Charles Xavier)
    5- SPIDER-MAN (Peter Parker)
    6- HULK (Bruce Banner)
    7- THOR

I think it would have been: Spider-man, Wolverine (Cyclops or Storm could be in contention), Hulk, Captain America (possibly Iron Man or Thor) Mr. Fantastic (possibly the Thing), Silver Surfer, Punisher (possibly Daredevil). This better represents the MU beyond the Avengers and various sub-genres. You could argue Namor, Strange or a number of others instead as Marvel seemed to promote a greater variety of franchises. This list represents my childhood in the 90's and teen years in the early/mid 2000's and is thus highly subjective.

But due to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and prominence of the Avengers I would argue: Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Storm (wouldn't be surprised if Rocket Racoon steals her spot).
I find the earlier list more interesting as it is more representative of the variety of intellectual properties at Marvel. Either list can be changed to represent a specific era but the point is essentially that the films have come to represent many people's views on who is Marvel's biggest characters.

    Did you say All Time?

If so, I can't pick...because the Fantastic Four should be on this list collectively. I realize most of you are really, really young, but there was a time when just about all of the great characters got their start in FF.

I agree with most everybody in the top 6:

    Spidey
    Wolverine
    Cap
    Thor
    Iron Man
    Hulk

Now as for a seventh it all depends on your age i think as the FF at one time were huge as JudictorPrime said. I would also add Daredevil, Xavier, Sub Mariner to the debate as well.

But i think the top 6 should be pretty standard for most.

I think you completely correct. I should have included them all but tried to better represent variety but you make an extremely valid point.
