Default When did J. Jonah Jameson stop wearing his Hitler mustache?

Anyone who knows which issue was the last one where we could see him with his original mustache? Even if it's something most people associate with Hitler, a toothbrush mustache is also associated with people like Chaplin and Oliver Hardy. And J. Jonah Jameson. I was so used to seeing it on him that Hitler never crossed my mind. But after the movies became big hits, new readers came to the comics and social media became more common, I guess Marvel deiced it was time for a little upgrade.

If you can figure out what book this is from...

...it might get you closer to an answer.

I actually think it would feel like a more natural transition if he just showed up with a normal mustache some day, and nobody cared. He removed it just because Captain America made a reference to Hitler? He's had it for hundred years, and this is the first time it is ever addressed.
I can understand it in the live action movies (especially considering J.K. Simmons was a nazi in Oz), but comics is something else. Which is also why some costumes works in comics and not live action.

Wow. I’d feel embarrassed if I wrote that. Reminds me of the winking, self-referential fan service you see in the Star Wars movies. Yeah, everyone knows it’s an outdated Hitler looking stache. It’s so lazy to go for the obvious punchline. I agree with the other poster. If they want to modernize his look, just have him change his mustache off-panel and don’t make a cringe Cap-implies-JJJ-is-a-Nazi scene out of it.

Hmm, I think it started with the Raimi movies. I know in the Spectacular animated series (after the Raimi movies) they gave him a soul patch to make his facial hair resemble an exclamation point. And I even looked up the 90's animated series as I thought I remembered it being normal there (as it was before the Raimi movies) but alas, it's still the toothbrush. However when it comes to comics, I'm not sure when it became normal (as even most modern comics keep the toothbrush-stache).

I (sometimes) wonder how the ‘stache was approved in the first place.

Unlike now, in 1963 Hitler wasn’t some abstract historical character. Everyone working at Marvel had actually lived through WWII. If anyone had reason to find JJJ’s look offensive it was those guys.

Because the Mustache itself wasn't some taboo thing that only Hitler had.

Oliver Hardy, Max Fleischer, Charles deGaulle, George Orwell, and Charlie Chaplin are just a few of the famous people that sported one. (Some of those names were already mentioned above)

Some sources say Ditko even purposely gave Jameson a Hitler style 'stache just to make him appear more loathsome.
Interestingly enough, about the same time Spider-man appeared, The Jetsons also started and featured a loud mouthed opportunist boss with a Hitler style mustache.

    ^^^Ha, I can see that.
And, if it was okay for JJJ to have it then, it’s okay now.

I once grew a toothbrush ‘stache (it was actually more of a boxcar, but barely), when I was a young Specialist in the Army. I did it to screw w. my NCO, who was a real ass w. other guys in my Squad who had facial hair. Normally I was clean shaven and bald.

The guy freaked when he saw me, and told me to shave it off. I refused so he pulled me into the 1SG’s office and started ranting about Hitler. 1SG was looking at me trying not to laugh and finally asked me to speak.

I told him I was a big Charlie Chaplin fan, and had no idea why my NCO was so angry. 1SG made the call that it was technically in regulation. I kept it another couple of weeks then shaved it off.

    Man that was fun.
