In a new TV spot shared by Saw Net, the new killer's very specific motives are emphasized. Rather than merely going after those deemed ungrateful in some way for their lives, according to Rock's character, "he's targeting dirty cops". He also later reiterated that point by stating that the killer's actions were sparked by "something personal". A new poster highlighting Detective Ezekiel Banks was also unveiled via ComicBook. Did recall thinking "Man, is there anything but cops in this flick?..." Past that, I guess that it could explain Amanda's "Pig" mask turning up. Also found myself wondering just how much her mask was actually public knowledge. If you narrow it down to the subject matter, it feels a little more likely.

Hmm...how to talk about this without being too spoilery...Not sure I can, but I'll use spoiler tags anyway. I won't reveal anything major, its just personal thoughts that might be considered spoilery I guess.

The killer wants revenge against a specific crew of dirty cops. And the problem with that is, when you do the traps for revenge vs redemption, you make the traps unbeatable or unfair (see the majority of Hoffman's traps). Its weird how everyone who copies Jigsaw, whether they were trained by him or not, don't understand this point. Or maybe that is the point, to make the situation even more horrific? The movie doesn't tie into the previous sequels, meaning no characters from previous movies pops up, no tying into events from the previous movies, none of that. So, other than curiosity as to why Jigsaw is a big deal, watching the previous movies aren't required. Of course it left the door wide open for a sequel. As of this writing it seems to be doing pretty good, at least better than "Those Who Wish Me Dead".

I liked Spiral. I'm not a Saw fan in general, I haven't watched all of them and don't think have even watched a single one before Spiral in theaters (I think all kinds of "torture porn" movies up to let's say Martyrs eventually found me better at home) but as a "soft reboot" of a continuity I was only a bit familiar with I enjoyed this. I called the reveal almost as soon as the movie allowed to but I was still engaged enough with what the 2-3 main characters unfolded until the credits rolled.

Hey I also liked Those Who Wish Me Dead, just like Sony's Unholy horror movie, both adapted from books, I assume 90s airport bin horror/thriller types.

Gotta catch them all in the big screen while you still can.

I plan to see TWWMD, it sounds like a return to form for Angelina Jolie, but its BO is being compared to Spiral's and...Spiral seems to be winning.

If we get a Spiral 2, and it seems like we might, that seems to be Rock's plan. Or at least his hope: "Yeah, I mean, I hope this movie is like Creed. In the sense that Creed is technically like Rocky 7. So, hopefully there’s more Spirals and hopefully I’m in more Spirals. But, we’ll see."

I thought TWWMD was a great motherly thriller Jolie movie, with her being a cursed mother figure, it reminded me of her Maleficent movies (my only favorite life Disney remake movies so far).

But I'd be interested in Rock's vision next. I'm also curious about what the next Purge movie will bring. I think that's the next not supernatural live horror franchise up to mat next (The Conjuring 3 should be the biggest supernatural debut of the year).

RT scores are at best a curiosity for me so I don't mind that but it looks like Saw movies have always been a franchise mainstream critics just tolerate every passing installment. Like Fast and Furious maybe?

The ending really worked for me I agree. But one criticism I thought seemed valid enough was how spoilers:

trap victims this time were less sympathetic than others in previous movies so the survival investment was lower compared to just finding out who the killer was.
