The answer is obviously Nightcrawler. Though I think Jean, Kitty, and Rogue have all had some decent leadership moments.
Havok was actually a decent leader during Peter David's run. Sadly, writers now love making him an easily manipulate character.

Of all the X-Men who've actually led before... Wolverine. I remember this future story(Team X 2000 I think it was called) where Wolverine led a bunch of insurgents which consisted of Doom and Cable. Logan may not prefer to lead, but he can and will if he must.

If given the chance, I believe Bishop could potentially become the greatest X-leader of all time because nobody commands the respect of a household like a black man, but they got him playing the role of Driving Miss Kitty/Emma these days.

Jean Grey has been the best leader.

I always thought Dani's leadership potential was wasted once they started the wholeAsgardian Valkyrie stuff.

I don't know. PAD started his self doubt and attributed it to Scott part way through his run and it seemed other authors went with it. Though I do think they misinterpreted what PAD was trying to say. Havok was kind of turned into a joke, then later he became a hot head and the guy who was tormented by Maddie and Scott. Granted I kind of like his hot head status now, it's interesting. But I can't help but think he would have been higher in this poll if he wasn't tampered with for lack of a better word. I haven't read Avengers, though. So I don't know how successful that was.

Re: Avengers, same with Rogue... Though, I know her leadership wasn't seen as successful during Carey except for his die hard fans. Of course there is the sixth month gap she led and wasn't bad though she wasn't a popular choice at the time.

Kurt should always be one of the ones to come in 3rd after the big two and I think its quite amazing that he isn't. I really don't care how much he has been written as the religious counselor or friend later.

Rogue, Wolverine, Moonstar and Cannonball as field leaders.

In terms of leaders of their people? Emma, Magneto, Charles and Jean.

Cable is easily the third choice, Rogue and Jean are probably next. That said leader is kinda overrated thing because writers seem to forget these people where leaders in books when they are not leading. People who were leaders are shown way to passive in stuff like Schism for example Cyclops and Wolverine would have been kick out of the X-men before Storm, Rogue and Kitty let them break up the X-men over an ego match.

I find he works better as an experienced mentor than a team leader.

    Bishop.

He's long overdue. He was a leader before he even met the X-Men.

Leading a team close to his team from the X.S.E days would be ideal. For those newer... The X.S.E from Bish's past and not the team lead by Storm later, or should I say before? Time travel kinda gets tricky.
