The reason superheroes are "super" is because they always - always - find a way to do both. If you can't do both, you are by definition a villain.

So a superhero who can't save innocent ppl and at the same time save the villain trying to kill those innocents is a villain?

A masked person, identity unknown, who kills, say, the Joker, without having to face interrogation, due process, and the judicial system is a villain, yeah. I would have thoughtthat is beyond debate.

In the case of the Punisher, Batman and most vigilantes due process failed or the threats were too great.

I like the MCU. No one in the MCU has a secret identity, and entire movies have been made about them being held accountable for their actions,

I think a tease works better than what we have in Justice League, though.

Comic fans know who Thanos is, and word of mouth spreads.

In Justice League, we see what's supposed to be this big, foreboding threat...nearly killed and his forces forced to retreat before humanity discovered gun powder. I know the defense is 'But Ares and Zeus' but neither gods are really characters in the DCU. They're just 300 extras, all things considered.

I agree. Although I understand where they were coming from, I think Snyder and Co would have been better off using Steppenwolf in that flashback instead of Darkseid - even though it would diminish the threat of Steppenwolf, at least he wouldn't be the lackey of the guy that was beaten. They could have then blamed Steppenwolf for losing the anti life equation, instead of making Darkseid (the fearsome leader of this whole armada) forget where it was.

Iron Man was absolutely held accountable. He is the poster boy for accountability.
