What Would a WONDER WOMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Look Like?

This video is based on the DCAU version of Wonder Woman. The first 20 or so minutes recaps Wonder Woman's history in the DCAU including comics and books and the recent animated film with Jessica Cruz. You must fast forward to the 21:40 mark of the video if you only want to see their 26-episodes 2-seasons arc for Wonder Woman: The Animated Series. The first 20 minutes is helpful if you aren't familiar with Diana's DCAU history as the seasons are based on it, but it is not required. Personally, I was really skeptical after the recap, but I actually really like the arc they created:

Trigger Warning: Ares, Circe, and Maxwell Lord are the three big bads of the arc. I assumed some people would need to be warned based on that last name. LOL

Wonder Woman is made from clay in this version, so I'm certain a lot of people would like that.

Nemesis, Agent Faraday, and Argus seem to be her supporting cast. Etta does join in some episodes but is not featured as heavily. (Steve Trevor is a WWII vet in this version as explained in the recap)

Nubia, Artemis, Cassie (who is the daughter of Ares in this version), Donna (created by Circe in this version), and Yara all show up.

The main recurring villains besides the big bads are: Giganta - who is the leader of Villainy Inc in this version, Dr. Psycho, and Cheetah. Other Wondy villains show up, too, like Angle Man, Blue Snowman, Veronica Cale, and Crimson Centipede.

The Sacrifice Storyline is a major part of the arc - although they do make some major changes.

WonderBat shippers get a lot of material.

The final episode ends with an Amazons vs. Ares and Mongul battle on Warworld.

Overall, I actually really liked the episodes. Based on the recap, I expected something much more mythology-focused, but the imagined show is about 80% heroics with about 20% mythology and a 2-seasons arc that actually seemed exciting with enough comic inspirations to satisfy the hardcore yet new medium interpretations to keep it interesting and fresh.

The jl cartoon shouldn't be the base for anything WW related. Unless you want example of poorly writen WW and her mythos.

Given it's the DCAU, this isn't a bad over aching storyline. About as a good a WW-solo feature in that universe can be probably. Some stuff I like: The Ares overarching plotline, Giganta leading a version of Villainy Inc, Circe's stuff, Dr. Psycho, incorporating Artemis and Nubia, etc

But most of the stuff I'd like could be done in it's own universe unhindered by the poor creative decisions of the DCAU creatives. I'd like to see Eisenberg voice Diana in some WW-solo stuff given she's had some rotten luck with the versions she has.

I think my main criticism is honestly, there's way too much Batman here. I think he shows up here more than he did S:TAS and I know his appearances there are a bone of contention for some Superman fans. Trinity Shipping has no place in a WW show imo.

Watched this before it was posted here and gotta say I'm in agreeance with Mystical41, I really didn't like the overall DCAU Wondy at all. Susan Eisenberg was an amazing voice actress and a great choice to play Diana but the stories, Bat shipping, and overall piss poor treatment of her universe (only enhanced via interviews that the creative leads had no idea what to do with her) just didn't do it for me. Honestly, the summary was like having a trip down bad memory lane.

Kingdom Come might have started the "warrior woman" Diana, but the JL cartoon pushed it down the hill and got it snowballing. A lot of the misunderstandings people have about her character can be traced back to the cartoon.

Yeah, I used to be more forgiving of DCAU Wondy but the more I learned about the creative mindset of Timm and co when it came to her from interviews, the less and less fondness I have for it.

Rich Fogel: She’s a little bit younger and more innocent than we’ve seen her in the past. She is literally the princess who’s fresh off the island—she’s never been off Themyscira before—and so she has a shock of culture coming out into Man’s World and her expectations of how people should behave towards her are different. It makes her a lot of fun to deal with because she’s haughty, but she’s also innocent. And, she also has issues with her mother.

Bruce Timm: She was probably the most challenging character of all of them in this show. Everyone else we kind of figured out who they were pretty easily, but we had a lot of discussions about Wonder Woman. With Batman, you could easily say “Batman: Year One, that’s the Batman we want to do," but with Wonder Woman we couldn’t really point to any previous version of Wonder Woman and say, “Well, yeah, that’s Wonder Woman.” We had to say, “Well, is she Linda Carter? Is she the George Pérez Wonder Woman? Is she Xena?” And none of those things worked exactly for what we wanted to do with the show. So the personality as just described by Rich is kind of what we came up with.

I don't think it's bad if it's a continuation of JLU universe. However, if they were to do a solo WW show, I rather it be set it's own universe.

The aggravating thing is, they didn't even pick one for Batman. Early BTAS was primarily inspired by the Bronze Age comics, but Miller and Burton were influences as well. They cited the Joker, for example, as a mixture of Englehart/Rogers and TDKR Joker. Why was this suddenly a roadblock to Wonder Woman?

I love the addition of the accent but if I had to choose when it comes to who should be voicing WW..always gonna be my girl Susan. Outside of that? Yeah accent, full throttle.
