considering that basketball friend/classmate they had apparently got a special kind of operation that not just healed him from his sickness but got stronger, I think that these kids probably underwent some operation too to try to become mutants on a genetical level. now either its just from one of them being a genius or some hidden character that will be revealed later but they do seem to have the belief that eventually they can cross through the gates which is why they keep trying. it makes sense to me that way which is also why they haven't admitted to other mutants that they aren't one, because if all their actions are just a form of flattery for the mutants then I think they would parade the fact that they are humans on the side of supporting mutants.

also people missed it but storm specifically mentioned how the cerebro scan is blocked, not that its just not reading them as mutants. this could be due to technology or whatever genetic operation they went that's blocking it. so from the x-men's perspective, they actually could still be mutants.

I’m not really sure that that’s really anything new to speculate as I think it’s more so related to the discussion the X-Men had last issue where they had the theory that Marvel Guy was shielding them. So it seems that Storm is assuming that Cerebro is being blocked from scanning them.

Assumption seems to be the theme going on here where everyone from the X-men to Avengers all think the kids are mutants and i feel like that proves they aren't and we are just going through this journey about who these people are, why they do what they do and finally why they so want to go to Krakoa so badly they would try to go through the gate so many times despite not passing through.

The confusing part is that they want to go to Krakoa so bad but can't go in, ostensibly because they're not mutants. But non-mutants can go to Krakoa with permission, and they've been invited multiple times.

There is a post (#73) that shows Mercury in the exact same outfit and everything practically matching the character here with the skin and hair with the wrong color.

But who cares, the story didn't as the character just plants a seed and poses.

But they still think theres somehow a chance they can go through on their own, which would be odd if they were just humans.
