Dalton and Craig's earlier films tended to be a bit more like Fleming's Bond, who was generally more cold and less superhuman (He spends whole chapters recovering from injuries that most of the film Bonds would've shrugged off-heck a good chunk of Casino Royale kind of showed something similar). Although towards the end I think the movies were rubbing off on Fleming a bit, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN generally have Bond be a bit more light-hearted (He even warmed to Connery, with YOLT confirming Bond was half-Scottish).
I agree about Spectre and SKyfall. there is a good chance that the studio took into account some of the feedback from Casino Royale from fans that Craig Bond came off too much as an unlikeable douchebag.

Which is the reason I say this about many films, not just comic movies but also novels. not everything you read on the paper or from your own imagination in your personal head is going to translate that way on a big screen where everyone will be watching the one same thing
