    Default Crazy-Quilt: a colorful villain!

Crazy-Quilt (sometimes "Crazy Quilt" without the hyphen) first appeared in Boy Commandos #15 (May-June 1946):

After tangling a few more times with the Boy Commandos, Crazy-Quilt encountered Robin in Star Spangled Comics #123 (December 1951):

And in Batman #316 (October 1979), he finally met up with Batman himself.

This is another ridiculous (at best) D-list villain from yesteryear that I have a massive soft spot for.

I would probably have first seen him in a UK reprint of Batman #316* and I remembered the look and power for years until I started collecting properly. Batman #316 and #368 are still a fun read.

There's a cute scene in Johns' Flash run (Wally) where Robin is showing Kid Flash a shelf of trophies from his own rogue's gallery, and Crazy Quilt's helmet is there. That made me laugh.

I might be wrong but I seem to recall him being eaten by Charaxes during a prison riot in Morrison's JLA? The less said about the Endgame cameo the better.

*I think I still have a reprint of Batman #309, the Blockbuster Xmas issue which always stuck with me.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

My favorite thing about Crazy Quilt is that he began as a foe of the Boy Commandos...and became a Robin foe.

I wish more Golden Age villains had been rescued like he was.

Crazy Quilt had an excellent appearance on B:TB&TB.
The opener was inspired by Batman #316.

Crazy Quilt would have been great in the new Batman movie, add some color to the movie. Not just shades of grey.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Crazy Quilt gives Jason Todd a beating from BATMAN #368 by Don Newton.
