We're talking about the heroes of legend, before modern recorded history.
I like Heracles myself, but there's something to be said for Samson, Daniel, Apollo, Izanagi, and if you are more passive, Jesus.

Guan Yu from one of my favorite times in world history. I am currently reading a book on him.

King Arthur.
...But the badass, giant-slaying, battle-waging, witch-hunting, werewolf-fighting, fairy-underworld-invading, size-changing “Red Ravager of Britain” from Welsh and Pre-Norman Invasion British Legends.
A lot less sitting on his ass as some French dude seduces his wife, and a lot less incest, and a lot more like Conan the Barbarian with a love of organization and posse-building.
Like action, adventure, rogues, and outlaws? Like anti-heroes, femme fatales, mysteries and thrillers?
I wrote a book with them. Outlaw’s Shadow: A Sherwood Noir. Robin Hood’s evil counterpart, Guy of Gisbourne, is the main character. Feel free to give it a look: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asi...E2PKBNJFH76GQP

You can read it here.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
I'm a big fan of most of the Greek demi-gods, although almost all of them came with pretty steep downsides, and seemed as much cautionary tale as inspirational adventure (Herakles and Bellerophon in particular).
For a favorite, tho, I might pick Robin Hood. Clever, capable, heart generally in the right place.
I dont know if this really fits as Historical but it is rumored the character is based of a local legend. or so it was said when the Disney movie came out in 1963.
I spent hours watching my dad's VHs copy of the Disney Movie.
Dr Syn Aka the Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh. A vicar who took on the identity of The Scarecrow and led a smuggling gang to fight the king's taxes. he even had a side kick in Mr Mipps. He did it all in his life. he was even a pirate.

What is really cool in in the League of gentleman movie The Scarecrow can be seen in a painting hanging on the all when Quatermain meets with the PM to form the new League.

Eventual wife of the bogatyr dragon slayer, Dobrynya Nikitich. When they first met, he automatically attacked her. She handily brushed off his attacks and wrapped him in a huge bag. Luckily for him, she liked her catch.
