I really didn't think I was witty. Kind of used the most obvious thing I could think of at the time.

I amuse myself in other ways...

I think he has. I just think it's been a while. I tried to watch Inception a few weeks back and I did not like it as much as I did when I first saw it, I don't think the Dark Knight Rises was a decent follow up to The Dark Knight, I hated Interstellar, and while Dunkirk was mostly good, he still couldn't get out of his own way and just tell the story. Not everything has to play with time. Then of course, Tenet, which could be re-titled "All My Bad Habits: The Movie."

Nolan is a really good director, but at this point I wonder if has it in him to become one of the greats. Early in his career he made Memento, The Prestige, Insomnia, The Dark Knight (another movie I don't love, but I recognize the quality). These movies had human characters, interesting perspectives, deeper themes that seem to be missing from his later career and it's a real shame.

We really disagree about our view of Nolan movies and which ones are better than others.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

There is nothing wrong with crime movies but it lack versatility, okay, Scorsese's has done other films but all his most famous are crime, mob, gansta related, Spielberg is versatile.

I brought up Nolan to show that although Nolan now has his own film language. He is coming up to be a more versatile director than Scorsese.

Scorsese is versatile. You are wrong on this one. Just because you don't want to engage with the people explaining that you're wrong does not mean that you are correct.

Scorsese is not as versatile as Spielberg. Also Nolan though with less films and a shorter career has shown more versatile range than Scorsese.

I only see crime films here. No versatility.

I mean if we are being honest that's because Goodfellas is one of the greatest films ever made and then over the next 20 years he had two similar films (Casino and The Irishman). Casino was kinda a retread and Irishman was meant to be an older aged film with more pathos to punctuate his take on that genre. But Taxi Driver is more of a character study and psychological thriller, Raging Bull is a character study and sports movie, Wolf of Wall Street is closer to a comedy, Gangs of New York is a period piece, Last Temptation of Christ is a biblical film, Shutter Island is a pyschological thriller, Cape Fear is a step away from being a horror film, Aviator is a biographical film, Hugo is more of an adventure film,

He has two more films you could maybe call criminal/mob films. The Departed, but that's more centralized around a good cop and a dirty cop with the mob as a backdrop to their duality and conflict, and then obviously Mean Streets which is very different from his other works and not nearly the in the same vein as Goodfellas or Casino as it's more about a slice of life of this one dude who is wrestling with conflicting emotions and a connection to the mob is part of it.

So in a 50 year career he has like 5 mob movies. They are more well known because one is routinely called one of the best films ever and two others were kinda riffs on that with the same actors, then one was the Departed which won the Oscar, and the other was a very early film that was more of an experimental thing that's very different from a traditional mob film.

I wouldn't call Nolan better. Scorsese really has more diversity when you get down to tone and material. Nolan has similar atmosphere in all his films since 2005 or 2008. The subject matter is different, but show someone TDK, Inception, Interstellar and Tenet and I think nobody would be surprised that they are the same director. Show someone Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Wolf of Wallstreet, Last Temptation of Christ, Cape Fear, and Gangs of New York and I think many people would think those films are by 6 different guys.

This feels like very dark subject matter. Really cool someone like Scorsese is tackling this.

It's Scorsese, so my guess is the lead will be str8, white and male. If he's not from Boston, I'll at-least tip my hat for the attempt at stretching himself as a storyteller

EDIT - actually clicked on the link, HILARIOUS! I was bang on the money. Quelle surprise!

"We are Shakespeare. We are Michelangelo. We are Tchaikovsky. We are Turing. We are Mercury. We are Wilde. We are Lincoln, Lorca, Leonardo da Vinci. We are Alexander the Great. We are Fredrick the Great. We are Rustin. We are Addams. We are Marsha! Marsha Marsha Marsha! We so generous, we DeGeneres. We are Ziggy Stardust hooked to the silver screen. Controversially we are Malcolm X. We are Plato. We are Aristotle. We are RuPaul, god dammit! And yes, we are Woolf."

I believe half the cast is going to be Native American, also the movie takes place in the 1920's and deals with the FBI so gay black females...not really realistic.

And while you are clearly an ignorant of Scorsese's work the man does a tremendous amount for international works
