Funnily enough, this is the second time he brings that particular bit of backstory in an interview about this book, so I do think that'll get a mention in the actual book at some point.

At some point if it’s relevant is pretty much exactly what Taylor says. But I think the first arc will stay clear of all that because the intent is to come in with as little prior knowledge of Jon as possible.
