Default S.W.O.R.D [05] : GIALLO Review and Spoilers

Its starts with some panels about the Snark War and the remaing siblings that were fighting over the (empire?) discussing how the other siblings were assasinated. One accuses the other and he finally admits to it. The female sibling says something like its cowardice and as he is about to backstab and kill her he gets a knife to the head.

Cut to the preview pages where we see Jean bring Cortez back buck naked. And she rushes him to the Quiet Council meeting.

As he enters Magneto has guests that he invited. Peepers and Brand. Magneto and Peeper have a little moment and Cortez is like why is Peepers even here.

Magneto tells Cortez that Peepers is one of his oldest and most trusted friends.

And tells him to get his statements ready or leave.

He starts to make some points about how the 'murder no flatscan' law is backwards and how he is mutant and how the humans have always wanted him exterminated.

And that he has moved past that and he has no desire to treat them as they do mutants BUT why should have to bow to them. Why is it a crime to murder something that is already dying. They are finite.

Cut to the Snarks and the lovely gorgeous appearance by Ameila. She was the transport for someone else. One of the Snarks are left and someone kills the remaining one.

Cut to the QC meeting. Peepers ask Cortez a basic question which sets him off. Cortez goes on a rant about how he is vital and important to Krakoa and thats when Magneto finally puts him in his place.

Thats when Amelia shows up with Cortez replacement. An Arakkoan mutant named Khora. Brand never trusted Cortez.

Amelia lets the QC know the Snark War is over but doesnt go into detail that they basically left the only Snark leader that they wanted ruling alive.

No one wanted to be in this meeting and Emma basically says next time Mags wants to teach someone a lesson to do it on his own time lol.

    Xavier flirts with Amelia.

Brand and Magneto discuss how some individuals present would not have liked how things went down with the Snarks.

Obviously the art is awesome and Al Ewings writing is one of my faves.

Sorry this isnt detailed and thorough. I just wanted a thread for us to discuss the issue.

The issue lost to many time with Cortez babling on the QC. hHe is just a colonizer that happens to be a mutant. of course he defended murdering "flatscans"

It got a nice twist with a arrako mutants on his place, that was hilarious

I loved the entire sequence. At first he gest all ready and confident even if he is naked and you think, "maybe he manages something here" but then... he brags about colonialism to the face of Storm, about the pain he has suffered at the hand of the sapiens in front of Magneto, and about how little his inheritance was in front of Emma!. This was great. I half expected them to send him to the pit. I wonder if his sister will show up.

This is setting Cortez up to be an enemy. Perhaps joined by his sister. Perhaps they will join Mystique.

Sounds like they could form a group. Maybe even...a brotherhood?

For now. The implication is that there are numerous Snarkwars, and that the one that has been in Ewing's cosmic titles is just the latest.

Magneto’s set up was just beautiful. The humiliation was pure poetry. Cortez exposed both literally and figuratively. Glad that psycho got crushed in the most painful way, his pride.

I thought this whole issue was hysterical and it proves Ewing can handle whatever plot thrown his way & build something out of it so hopefully people will quit complaining, he was the first person to actually do something relevant with Arrako, also this goes to show everyone that whole "Flatscan" Mindset is not the move! Cortez is a joke all that hyping himself he did just to be made truly irrelevant on his current path i imagine he'll be in the pit by a years end.

Agreed, even Exodus looked bored but I think Cortez indirect reference to Luna, who Cortez used as a human shield, and family while looking at Erik did it for him, poor Cortez.

Imo Ewing either has plans to develop Cortez character or he just enjoys shaming him or both.

I loved the whole issue and with Amelia presence this book looks more and more like SWORD is a place for meeting between Magneto, Brand, the Acolytes and neutral mutants from different sides. Such a great book.
