I had little interest when this was originally mooted and seemed to possibly be about the story of how the Mother met Ted (might not have been but that was the impression I had at the time) and I have just as little interest now. And I say that as a fan of the original series.

I eventually checked out the show.

It's ... okay. Definitely has first season growing pains. Hopefully the cast will gel more in season 2, but so far it's fairly mediocre and needs to stop relying on teasing the mystery who the father might be. Spend more time on the jokes and the characters.

I like "How I Met Your Mother", even if it's not one of the elite comedy shows for me - I watched half of the first season of "How I Met Your Father" and decided to quit, thought it was quite poor

I think the original concept for HOW I MET YOUR FATHER was a spinoff series about the woman who eventually married Barney after his divorce with Robin.

I thought they might go in that direction, but was that ever confirmed?

One write-up said that they revealed the dad in the first episode, and it was a member of the supporting cast.
