    Uh, yeah.

My original reaction to the thread title was "For the love of holy God Why?"

I remain suspicious (some films just shouldn't be remade), but I will say the concept here makes me a bit curious.

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof....ah yes, I watched some parts of the movie on a TV cable channel about 15 years ago. I would like to say I think it was good. But I did not watch the whole film. I watched it for about 25 minutes. Then I turned off the TV and left.

I've seen most of her movies but not that one.

It's been years since I've seen it. I remember liking it in the moment although being aware that the gay subtext had to be removed.

Paul Newman and Burl Ives were great in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Newman was and remains one of the best actors ever.

It is worth a watch. Just bear in mind, it was made in 1958, and studios weren't allowed to take homosexuality head-on at the time.

I dunno about that! I checked out the trailers of all the Best Picture nominees for this year's Oscars, and they all looked quite interesting to me!

Not saying that another movie adaptation of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof is at all necessary, but quite a few iconic films were either remakes of earlier movies, or newer adaptations of source material that had previously been adapted into film already (Ben Hur, Scarface, The Thing)
Take my dreams, childish and weak at the seams
Please don't analyze, please just be there for me

I agree, but the main thing making me think twice in favor of this film is that telling the story against the backdrop of Afro-American social and familial norms could make for something quite interesting.

Is there a hidden gay sub plot in the movie?

No, it was obvious as Burl Ives and Paul Newman gave tongue.

Without giving too much away, Paul Newman plays a very troubled character named Brick. Part of his problem is that he's broken up over the death of his best friend Skipper. As the play goes on, if you read between the lines, it's suggested that he may have in fact had romantic feelings for Skipper. The movie does it's best to obscure this notion.

Now, there's a lot more to the story than just that, but this was probably the touchiest part of the tale during that time.
