1987! The year I was born

1986 was an absolutely insane year for Superman and DC in general. You had Alan Moore writing the final Pre-Crisis Superman story, Miller wrote the DKR which shaped the perception of Batman & Superman for decades, and then you had Byrne rebooting the character. I don’t know if Supes will ever have another year like that again but we can hope.

If it was cover artist and not cover, I'd have to go with Ordway for these years because it's insane that a writer could paint covers for other books in the line while handling his own art duties.

1990's Adventures of Superman#468 probably isn't even the third major storyline of the year, he just killed the hell out of the cover.
