The whiplash from the turnaround on all this is crazy. Glad he’s happier though, can’t understate the importance of a steady artist on a book. I’m sure the audience for a new Static book will love the manga influence lol.

Reading List (Super behind but reading them nonetheless):
DC: Currently figuring that out
Marvel: Read above
Image: Killadelphia, Nightmare Blog
Other: The Antagonist, Something is Killing the Children, Avatar: TLAB
Manga: My Hero Academia, MHA: Vigilanties, Soul Eater: the Perfect Edition, Berserk, Hunter X Hunter, Witch Hat Atelier, Kaiju No. 8
Same man lmao. I went from “damn is this going to be dog**** like the last Static series?” to “well I guess things worked themselves out!” I’m still kind of nervous since I didn’t enjoy Vita’s Batgirls story, but I didn’t enjoy Easton’s Mister Miracle backups while I did enjoy issue 1 of his MM mini, so I’m choosing to be optimistic. I like the art style for sure at least.

I very much wonder what went down?
Also, Nikolas Draper-Ivey is really rallying a crowd, especially if he was able to impulse-pitch a Static project. As noted, he's been wanting to tell something with Ebon in it for awhile now. Will this be it? And he's going Seinen, too?
I'm glad he is doing better. This industry is brutal. Hope he has a support system in place to keep his spirits lifted.

Oh snap! They bringing in more iconic show Bang Babies!
EDIT: Not a surprise, but I just want to gush: Nikolas Draper-Ivey really knows how to do fades! First Hotstreak and now Shiv! And also lining, too; Shiv's lining is so sharp and fresh, and I love it!
And I just love his colors! I love how bright and unapologetically saturated they are, doubling down on that Anime/Manga influence.

I love the way NDI came in with such a strong grasp of his style; it's something I've noticed and appreciated about a lot of the fresh blood DC's pulled in. him, Jamal Campbell, Brandon Thomas, Brandon Easton, Daniel Sampere, Sumit Kumar, Joelle Jones, etc. all have come in with very clear understandings of their storytelling style and I love to see it. NDI is definitely the one I'm the most hyped about! his Static and Brandon Thomas' Hardware (with the legend himself, Denys Cowan, on art) are the things that will make or break Milestone for me.

A fascinating point, especially when you realize/consider that these guys may be new to DC, but they are not new. A lot of people are gonna start turning their heads towards these people and noticing them for the first time, as DC makes for a good signal boost, but it's always nice to appreciate that these folks aren't new in any sense of the word. And they intrinsically know they don't need to be shy about it. They have their styles and their flows and their perspectives and their ideas. So while they're here at DC, they're simply bringing what they already have and what they are already cultivating to the audience captivated by DC.
And they don't have to be shy about that because they know they're already worth it.
enjoying all of this discussion, thank you. re-reading first series, up to #18. So hopeful for his next series.
