    Default Unknown Soldier Appreciation (2021)

Perhaps one of the best-known features in DC's Star Spangled War Stories was The Unknown Soldier.

There had previously been mentions of an "Unknown Soldier" in places like Our Army at War #168 (June 1966),

but the character was first billed as a regular feature starting with Star Spangled War Stories #151 (June-July 1970).

That would continue until issue #204 (February-March 1977), and starting with #205, the name of the book changed to Unknown Soldier.
Issue #268 (October 1982) would be the final of that run.

Always like getting the UNKNOWN SOLIDER in the early 80's. Like reading the backup features with the other DC Characters.

I'm a fan of Joshua Dysart's Unknown Soldier ongoing along with the Garth Ennis miniseries a decade prior. I assume that those two comics completely contradict all the Unknown Soldier stories that came before and is effectively a reboot?

I never read those, but don't forget that the Unknown Soldier's feature/series originally ran from 1970-1982, which would be pre-CoIE.
Don't know how much DC may have "revamped" that character for the post-CoIE era, nor do I know if any further revamps after those stories were first published may have shifted things back more towards pre-CoIE continuity in the long run.

The pre-COIE adventures really deserve to be collected in omnibus form or as a Deluxe Hard Cover (something similar to what they did with Jonah Hex in Weird Western Tales). DC's non-superhero titles are among the best things of the '70's - for any company.
