NOTE: This came up in another thread.

    Mr. America.

. . . A legacy character who took the identity of the Golden Age Tex Thomson (later "Thompson") who first appeared in Action Comics #1 (yeah, that one).
Thomson became "Mr. America" in Action Comics #33, and still later it was changed to "Americommando" in Action Comics #52.
So, it seems like maybe we could use a thread for the original DC Comics' version of Mr. America.

First appearance of the Tex Thomson feature: Action Comics #1 (June 1938)

    To be continued . . .

The name of the feature to changed to "Mr. America" in Action Comics #33 (February 1941):

The last issue that Tex's feature (renamed Americommando by that point) appeared in was Action Comics #74 (July 1944).

And from Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe Vol. XV (May 1986)

The death of Tex Thomson / the original Americommando may have been seen in National Comics #1 (May 1999):

Or maybe he died in the Earth-Zero version of whatever happened during the Golden Age mini-series.

Or maybe he lived long enough to create Hero Hotline.

Rumors of Tex's death (or life) are numerous.

    This is true.

But the one I used was from a 1999 comic book, so I'm not sure if that would have been the latest reference to the character's possible death or not.
