    Default Kenan Kong/Super-Man Appreciation 2021

Since he’s finally getting another story I thought now was the time to make a thread for him:

Make sure to pick up DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration where Kenan has a team up with Connor Hawk with Greg Pak doing his first DC work in ages if you’re interested!

Taken from us before his time. Kenan provides some much needed Asian representation in DC and the Super family.

I’m pissed he’s just been dropped, dude was one of the best new characters of the 2010s! I hope Yang uses him in Batman/Superman, or he gets something somewhere else. Also DC needs to put out an omnibus of Yang’s run.

Yeah, looking forward to this new stuff. Here's to hoping it leads to more appearances elsewhere. Such a cool adaptation of the S logo...

Loved Yang’s tying the S-shield to the concept of qi

I enjoyed the run, too, but I don't think they usually make omnibuses for low-sellers, unfortunately

Have you seen some of the omnibuses that come out?

They made an Omnibus of The Who’s Who pages from the 1980s! Stuff that is all non-canon now! How many people could’ve possibly bought that? If they can do that they can give me an omnibus of Yang’s New Super-Man run. The guys in the collections department literally just throw darts at a wall when it comes to everything except Batman collections.

This, and yet we still can't get the O'Neil/Cowan The Question, Wagner/Davis Sandman Mystery Theater or Ostrander/Mandrake Spectre.

Concurred. Kenan's book should be one of those perpetual ongoings that doesn't end but at most just gets relaunched with a new #1.

And not just him, but his whole found-family of the Justice League of China, too. I miss every single one of them.

Yeah that JL had a really fun (and funny) dynamic. Would be great if they all made an appearance at some point in Batman/Superman. Based on the first few issues, there could be limitless possibilities for various characters throughout the alternate universes.

Finally read Kenan’s story and I enjoyed it. Felt like Pak did a good job of recreating his voice, unsurprising considering he and Yang are close. Hope Kenan gets to show up again, I’m going to ask PKJ if Kenan will be part of the Superman event in Sept.

While I can see why people would be fans of his first, more classic-looking Clark Superman 'S', since it looks really good in shots like the above image, I think overall that I really do prefer his Yin-Yang 'S'. The black and white stands out more against his predominately red-orange bodysuit, which makes the yellow 'S' look generic by comparison. And I appreciate how the Yin-Yang 'S' gives Kenan more his own identity as the New Super-Man, while still clearly showcasing that he is a part of the Superman Family.
