Nice Collider interview featuring Henry Golding: https://collider.com/henry-golding-s...vie-interview/

These were the stand out points for me:

The relationship between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow

There's a beginning where they're brothers. There's a moment where they're sworn enemies. There's moments where they work together to fight an equal sort of enemy. This relationship never sort of ends and sort of peeling back those layers and discovering more. And that's the great thing again about the origin story is we get to see the basis and to see why it's so emotionally charged for both of these characters and at what point does it turn.

And of course, Hard Master being one of the combat specialist at the Arashikage, he of course has some part in training Snake Eyes to be the guy that he is. So Hard Master of course is very reluctant in his teaching because to be honest with you, Snake Eyes is a little **** in the beginning. He isn't the guy that we know him to be. And so of course there's going to be a rivalry. But it plays out so well, and Iko is phenomenal.”
Digging this sense of brotherhood between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes.

The question if whether or not Snake Eyes has to be a blue-eyed, blonde hair character
I always loved the origin of how Snake Eyes actually became sort of masked, and his time at war. Like, I love that, but I think bringing it up to date was important. And speaking to Larry [Hamma] about the complexity behind back then having a white man, a blonde hair, blue-eyed guy come to Japan to train, it was, he wanted that fish-out-of-water story. And back then the easiest way to explain that was like, yeah, it's a white guy in Japan. Of course it's going to be sort of like different.

But with us, in the 21st century, it's like dropping an American in, let's say Switzerland. It's of course, everyone is going to be feel sort of out of place. So for me, retelling this origin story was kind of important, but of course, paying respect to the stories that came before it and hinting through. The amount of Easter eggs that we put in to please our long-term fans, you really have to kind of like pause each scene and kind of see what we put in the background, what kind of props we've kind of snuck in here and there. But for me, I think, yeah, it was an amazing ride.
So yes, a blonder haired, blue eyed character could work. It has worked. It can still show how he's a "fish out of water." But Golding can do that too. Yeah, GOlding is Asian, but he's not Japanese. Furthermore, the Arashikage could have issues with ANY outsider, Asian or otherwise.

I guess that just about sums up the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow relationship/rivalry.

Yeah, ultimately when it comes down to it what's important is Snake Eyes is an outsider to the Arashikage. Although I wonder if he's still American in this?

I think Golding’s using his English accent (his father is English and he spent much of his adolescence there) in the trailer, though his line about not having a home, might mean they’re going with a “nomad of ambiguous ethnic identity” for him.

I *do* think they’re going to keep the idea of him having a previous military background from somewhere, so his initial baseline is “regular badass” before the Arishikage make him “ninja badass.”

Thing I’m still most curious about is whether they’ll actually go full Larry Hama Backstory and having him get the horribly scarred face and vocal chords when rescuing Scarlett.

I really could see them using a restrained but still very pitiable scarring design on part of his face so that Golding can act full force in some helmetless scenes in future films. I mean, we’ve had Deadpool and Sandor Clegane do different versions of “obviously disfigured without being frightening or disgusting. I’m a sure a make-up artist could put Golding into some area around there.
Like action, adventure, rogues, and outlaws? Like anti-heroes, femme fatales, mysteries and thrillers?

I wrote a book with them. Outlaw’s Shadow: A Sherwood Noir. Robin Hood’s evil counterpart, Guy of Gisbourne, is the main character. Feel free to give it a look: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asi...E2PKBNJFH76GQP

The visor being retractable tells me that we'll still be seeing plenty of his beautiful eyes at the very least....

I'll be kind of shocked if he loses his voice in the movie unless they're saving that up for an actual G.I. Joe film?

It's Hollywood, I'm expecting "disfigured but still handsome".

They should have made this earlier instead of “Retaliation”

Hi all. Check it out! Turns out the Snake Eyes movie will be the first panel for Comic-Con International this year. The article is here (plus some really cool pics of the characters): https://www.cbr.com/gi-joe-snake-eye...tos-exclusive/

The panel will take place on Comic-Con's YouTube channel at 1 PM, Wednesday (7/21). Hope to catch it. Apparently there'll be screenings of the film in select cities on that day as well. I'm seriously considering trying to get to the NYC one. You can check out the Snake Eyes Instagram for that.

In any case, looking forward to this panel!

Great short featuring the fight training that went into the film:

The sword fights look on point (no pun intended).

Also, Larry Hama has expressed his views on the film. Overall, he's very pleased with it: https://news.hisstank.com/2021/07/07...ns-movie-74346

    Here is the direct quote:

“Just got home from a private screening of Snake-Eyes. It surpasses my expectations by a lot. Much more of a martial arts film than the last two outings, but still brings in the Joes (through Scarlett) and Cobra (through the Baroness.) Very impressive fight choreography which is mostly practical, and the acting quality of the leads lends the subject matter much gravitas. There will be those who will not like the deviance from my comics continuity, but I felt it was what needed to be done to make the story work in the present.”
I like the idea that this is a martial arts film. Hama also addresses the changes that were made to the film to make it "work in the present." Again, as a fan of Snake Eyes, I appreciate what came before. I would have liked if the movie stuck completely to the mythos. However, I'm interested in this new interpretation.

I've long accepted this can't be like the comic books. There's no Viet Nam War, so that has to change. And his horrific injury was just a random helicopter accident.(unless they retconned that too to be Zartan or something) There's no way they'd do that for a movie. Assuming he's still similarly injured, it would have to tie into the story.

There was an extended trailer for this shown before the BW movie last night. Looked super, super good.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time they've modernized Snake Eyes' origin.

Did they? I didn't read many of the modern iterations of the comic - just the Marvel ones.

I was thinking the first movie series and G.I. Joe Renegades.

I forget if they explicitly depicted his origins in the IDW reboot.

Funny G.I. Joe PSA parody of the upcoming Snake Eyes movie. Kinda, sotra, somewhat addresses and pokes fun at the controversies regarding the film:

Did they get the actual actors to voice them here? If so, that's perfect .
