Default Doctor Mist (Nommo) Appreciation Thread 2021

First appearance: last panel of The Super Friends #12 (June-July 1978)

And then at the beginning of The Super Friends #13,

He started appearing in "regular continuity" DC titles when Superman teamed-up with the Global Guardians in DC Comics Presents #46 (June 1982).

Question for you Major Hoy, or for anyone who may know the answer.

After the Super Friends comic, with the exception of DC Showcase 46, were the members of the Global Guardians (or the team itself) showing up in back stories of any DC comics before the Crisis? (Per example; in the back pages of Superman ect)

If anyone knows the answer to this question it would be great, thanks.

Here’s a guy DC does so little with.
He really needs more modern appearances.

    I agree. That's why I used him in TRUTH & JUSTICE #1

    Go buy it.

The Global Guardians as a whole don't get a lot of appearances in the DCU these days.

I think this is the result of the scaling back of titles, which is why I am in favour of the return of backstories at this point.

Doctor Mist was in the first run of Justice League Dark for a while , as well as Suicide Squad the Black Files.

Well, they were pretty much trashed by guys like Keith Giffen and J. M. DeMatteis in Justice League International back in the day . . .

I enjoyed Giffen's work with Fire & Ice, but because the Global Guardians were one of the first superheroes I encountered as a young child, I still prefer Green Fury and Ice Maiden...I think we're probably a minority though.

I also swear that I read a Global Guardians back story that wasn't superfriends or DC showcase 46, but I was quite young, so perhaps my memory is distorted, but I recall it showing the heads of the heroes involved. (Huntsman, Dr Mist ect)

Trying to find old backstory's in other comics is almost like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

(Like how Green Arrow used to show up in the back pages of World's Finest) Oh well probably lost forever...indeed it if ever truly existed.
