Safe bet they’ll be tied to Clark. I wish he had made Cosmic Boy black and Lightning Lad Asian though, really don’t need another black hero with electric powers at DC. And Cosmic Boy is a powerhouse in terms of abilities so it would’ve opened up some interesting stories to tell with a black character imo.

That's what I was saying a few pages back when the race bending conversation took off.

I'm all in for representation, and anyone who knows me knows that. But this isn't representation; using Ron Troupe, John Henry, Nat Irons, Gangbuster, Maggie Sawyer, Shay Veritas....*that* would be representation. What we have here is taking a secondary character who's just barely important enough to be called "important" and making a superficial change (let's be real, Jim hasn't mattered very much in a long damn time). Now, maybe the characters I just mentioned will show up, I wouldn't be surprised if at least a few of them did. And that'll be great. But they're not being hyped up as part of the core cast.

This almost never happens to the "truly" important characters (sometimes, but not often), just the ones who have stuck around long enough to be quasi-recognizable. And it's usually the ginger redhead, because gingers are the only group where it's still socially acceptable to joke about them and nobody is gonna get pissy about the demographic being removed/changed. This isn't a win for diversity, this is ignoring the incredible PoC who already exist and throwing a thin coating of paint on a white guy.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are times when a little race bending can be a benefit. Lois being half Asian works really well for me; her father's a general and at some point he came home from overseas with a wife and daughter. Cool, that helps play up Lois' background as a army brat and it doesn't change her visual to such a degree that she's unrecognizable. But Jimmy being black is a pretty big shift, and doing that while someone like Ron Troupe remains unused just rubs me the wrong way. It just feels like a lazy attempt to diversify while leaving the actual diverse characters out of the equation. And I'm not even saying they should replace Jim with Ron; use both!

As for Lois being petite, I'm not bothered by it. Lois should be a beautiful woman but that doesn't just mean "porn star curves" either. I didn't think "young male" when I saw her; it's clearly a woman, she's cute (for a drawing), and her personality really comes across in that promo art.

And all this....it's just nitpicking. I am beyond excited that Clark is finally getting a cartoon again, I'm beyond thrilled that it's aimed at kids and an all-ages audience. I might have to wait until the blu-ray for this but it's definitely gonna find its way into my daughter's movie collection.

I guess it's also on a design-by-design basis. I'm not against a more diverse Legion off-hand (once again racebending a redhead aside) but I don't think we need naked sand Dream Girl or whatever the heck Sook's Phantom Girl is supposed to look like.
I remember seeing people complain online about Sook's character design of Karate Kid. Karate Kid's look was seen as stereotypical even tho Sook is Asian himself.

I liked Kid's design in the Legion cartoon and Trapped in Time...

I really don't get why y'all are fixating on gingers being targeted here. They are not the only white demographic that gets racebent.

True, it just kind of stands out that redhead seems to always equal racebending with an African-American actor whenever it comes up.

What Frontier said. A lot of people have noticed the pattern of red haired characters being racebent almost exclusively to be black.
When you look at the list, it's more than enough to raise an eyebrow.

Jimmy Olsen in CW Supergirl, American Alien, Superman Red Son animated movie, and now My Adventures With Superman.
Wally West in comics, DCAU and CW.
    Iris West CW and DCEU.
    Hawkgirl CW.
    Starfire on Titans.
    Batwoman CW in season 2.
    MJ in the MCU.
April O’Neil in Rise of the TMNT.
The Little Mermaid Ariel for the live action remake.
Annie The Musical with Jamie Foxx.
    Bow from She-Ra remake.
Cyclone for the upcoming Black Adam movie.
    Red Sonja upcoming Conan movie.
Lightning Lad and Lightning Lass in Bendis' Legion of Supheroes.

Lana Lang, Lex Luthor, and Maxima remain the unaltered redheads in Superman's sphere. Hold your breath and expect that to change in the not-to-distant future.

Superman and Lois does have a Black Lex Luthor but he's explicitly and alternate universe version

Starfire still has red-hair in Titans also her character is an orange alien...Also Lana Lang was played by a half-Asian actress in Smallville.

Nothing about that jumps out to me. If we look at the list of non-redheads:

    Brown haired:
Nick Fury (Black in the MCU, the video games, the cartoons and just about every other modern piece of media featuring the character)

Karnak (Asian in the Inhumans show)
    Wintergreen (Black in Titans)

If you look at the list, you see that with a few exceptions, they're predominately supporting or ensemble characters. It's as I said; modern adaptations of decades old properties racebend some of the cast to be more inclusive, but they rarely have the. nerve to go all the way and alter the main character. Thus, their supporting characters (friends, love interests, ect.) usually are the ones changed. And redheads just happen to make up a disproportionately large chunk of supporting characters vs. actual protagonists.

There is a chance that Lois Lane in this show might be East Asian too, because her voice actress, Alice Lee, is East Asian (though American born). Normally I wouldn't make this connection, but there was a movement in these past few years to cast specific characters with voice actors that mach their race.

I often forget that Lex Luthor is a redhead. Probably because of, you know, the baldness.

Also as a kid I 100% thought that Lex Luthor was black in S:TAS.

I'm not really expecting it to effect the plot or character at all but I guess I'm kind of curious who they'll cast for Sam and Lucy if they show up.

Hawkgirl CW was not race-bent from a redhead. Kendra Saunders on CW looks like Kendra Saunders in the comics mixed with black heritage.

Batwoman in season 2 is an original character and therefore not race-bent. Kate Kane was played by two white actresses.
