Default Cover Contest 19 May - 25 May: Show Us Your 'Stache

OK, here's the thing. I'm old and lazy, and rather than trying to be clever and come up with an original concept, I had rather just recycle an old one. Actually, I'm re-recycling one, since this is the same Jack Kirby cover that I have used twice before to kick off a new contest, and today I'm milking that cow dry by using it as the basis for a third contest. Deal with it.

Drawing inspiration from Mr. Whitebread here, this week's contest is to post a cover showing someone with a mustache. It's that simple. The normal Rules apply:

    1) Post One (& ONLY ONE) Cover that fits the theme of this Week's Contest!
    2) Cover must be from a Published Comic Book, Graphic Novel, or Collected Volume!
    3) Covers must be Posted before Voting Begins!
    4) Voting Begins 12 AM Tuesday PST and Runs Until 12 AM Wednesday PST (3 AM EST)!
    5) Vote by Posting the name in BOLD of the Poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most! A vote need not be in bold, but it does make it easier to Count-The-Votes!
    6) The Winner of the Contest is the Entry with the MOST Votes after the Voting-Period!
    7) It's Okay to Discuss the Covers but if you Think Someone's Entry Doesn't Fit the Theme or Violates the Rules, you Don't need to Argue it in the thread, Simply Don't Vote for It!
    8) Plus: Occasionally Voting will Result in a Tie! The Person Who Started the Thread will do the Counting that Week will Usually call for a TIE-Breaking --Vote from Someone who has Not Yet Voted!
    9) AFTER the Tie-Breaker Vote, Voting Ends and the Winner is Declared by The One Who Started the Thread (or assigned surrogate) and Thus will do the Counting.
    10) HAVE FUN!

I's looking behind us now, to history back

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

What kind of person re-recycles the same cover over and over?

Anyway, let's go with this one. Many staches may mean many vote.

So many possibilities… not easy… this one:

Almost went with foxley's Jim Gordon, but in the end I had to choose the silliness of Riv86672's entry.

I'll cast my vote for Ajax_X, since featuring several distinct varieties of mustache that are explicitly identified by name is service above and beyond anything I expected.

I want to thank everyone who posted a cover this week, and I am amazed by the variety of the selections. If I could re-write the rules, I would declare them all to be winners. But since I can't, someone will in fact have to tally the votes, and since I shall be hibernating by the time the contest ends, I invite any interested party to do the counting in my stead. Otherwise, I'll do it in the morning. Thanks for making this a really fun week, everyone!

Congratulations to Riv86672 for a comic with losts of interesting facial hair. I suspect this was a Movember thing, but could be wrong. In any case, Diana makes the cover for me.

And now, what has the captain learned this contest in the Peak of the Week: the captain does not shave and can finally grow a stache and beard combo. For those of who who actually read my adventures way back in the early 80s, the drawings of me had a small number of single chin hairs, signifying my struggle to grow something. And facial hair matters. Even for the most anti-fashion male, the face is a place where we go nuts and it's easily one of the first things noticed about a male when he's first seen. This applies tpo Real Life as well as the comic book cover.

As to the Groucho cover, there is this which was my second choice, although it wasn't close. After all, Chaplin/Hitler has mustaches as a major plot point:

Congrats to RV! And since my racist Detective #1 cover did not get any votes, I guess I should have gone with my other choice with Dum Dum Duggan.
