He’s talking about making both Super Pets and Black Adam into their own little DC Universes. Typical Rock bluster or maybe a sign that WB is actually letting him have a seat at the big table?

Well, there are worse people to be involved with than Dwayne Johnson, but we'll have to see how the box office backs him up.

BA was always meant to be the start of many other projects/spin offs. The Rock already talked about the long term plans him and his production company have: https://twitter.com/blackadamnews/st...08552895021056

Among the upcoming DC movies, BA is the one more Marvel-like (connections with multiple franchises and set up new characters for spin offs).

It'll all depend on BA's success though.

    Same for Superpets.

Just look at James Gunn. Which how well received his Suicide Squad was, they are giving Gunn a whole bunch of spin-offs, starting with Peacemaker which was a huge success and another Squad spin-off in the works.

If this all goes well we could be seeing similar stuff to that.

Yeah, if they can keep knocking the spinoffs out of the park and movie with them, it'll be a good revenue stream for HBO Max, too. Peacemaker was fantastic.

TSS also flopped at the box office but did well on HBO Max (as did Peacemaker) which means theatrical underperformance doesn’t necessarily rule out WB pursuing spin-offs. There’s also that Black Canary movie spinoff (although if anything gets cancelled I think that will) of BoP, another box office failure.

I would be more than happy with more (good) DC animation .

Yup. HBO Max seems a good alternative to big screen films for a lot of these projects. Especially with a tight-fisted Zaslav in charge. I was hoping Superman and Lois would move to HBO. Supposedly when it is streamed on HBO it does well.

Super-pets is being called a flop by some. It cost 90 million to make and may end up with a final box of less than 90 million. It was developed by Johnson's team, and I wonder if this and the lackluster reception at SDCC of BA may cause Johnson's star to dim a bit with the new regime. Reaction to the first trailer was just so, so. Campea says he is not seeing as much buzz about BA as he had expected to see. Rumor is that Johnson wants to build his own BA universe with JSA characters and how well BA does may determine if he has the clout to get his wish.

I'd imagine that's still a possibility. Since they contracted the farm for three seasons, one would think almost everything was set like that. So, maybe after season 3, we'll see a move (maybe to coincide with a move to Metropolis? Maybe not, but I could see the symmetry being appealing to PR people.

That's a shame about Super-Pets, because I really *really* enjoyed that. Hopefully it fares well on HBO Max so we can get a TSS situation. I know that a lot of places said he wants a BA DCEU, but I think half of that is just Johnson way of being a hype guy. His exact words in the video (particularly their cadence) struck me more as him just wanting to be a huge presence in it. Which, if BA does well, might even position him well for the Feige position... but I agree that if it doesn't do well, things could sour quickly.

It'll be interesting to see, for sure!

I saw it, it looked amazing. The kids liked it, The Rock is a good actor. I thought he was miscast as Krypto but he killed it. I say if he wants to put the DCEU on his shoulders, he’s got the charisma to do it. I’m ready to build the Cinematic Universe on Krypto.

"Warner Bros. release “DC League of Super-Pets” looks to take second. The film earned $3.35 million on Friday, marking a 64% drop from its opening day last week. The animated feature has been somewhat of an underperformer, especially for a film featuring iconography from DC Comics (even if it follows the Justice League’s furry friends). With the film’s current domestic gross standing at $38 million, “Super-Pets” still has a way to go to recoup a $90 million production budget."

Well, that's what happens when you spend a generation killing a brand. They won't fix that overnight.

Despite the bad, this failure (it seems that it will be) could give us an image of the WB mentality. plans are useless if the mentality remains the same.
If WB accepts failure, things will go in the right direction.
if WB starts with the tears, everything remains the same. because the failure of this movie is due to the destruction that WB caused, they have submerged DC, today DC = garbage, only if they accept their fault things can change.

Exactly. I suspect many movie-goers (who are not DC fans) won't go to see a DC film because of the poor quality of the films to date - with exceptions like Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Still this film is soft and fuzzy and features the Rock so I am a bit surprised it did so poorly - it won't make its 90 million price tag back at the box office.
