    Default [Help] Donny Cates

    Hello,

I have heard lost of good stuff about Donny Cates. I plan on getting the few avalable omnibus of his works.
    But I have questions:

    VENOM:
    vol.1: #1-12
    vol.2: #13-25
    vol.3: #26-34 + FCBD2020

=> Do I need to read "Absolute Carnage" before vol.2 ?

    MARVEL COSMIC:
vol.1: Thanos #13-18 + Death of the Inhumans + Cosmic Ghost Rider + Silver Surfer: Black + material from Thanos Annual & Thanos: Legacy

=> What do you think could / will be in vol.2 ?
Do you think his venom run could show up in this collection ?

    Thanks

Absolute Carnage takes place concurrently with Vol 2, specifically, issues 17-20 are AC tie-ins.

I'll say read it in this order
    AC #1
    Venom #17
    AC #2
    Venom #18
    AC #3
    Venom #19
    AC #4
    AC #5
    Venom #20

    #20 is essentially an epilogue

I enjoyed it, but the ending is a bit... Eh.
Personally, #20 serves as a better ending as it leads into in a future (and one of the best) arcs.

    Volume 2 is made up of 3 arcs;
The first is a tie in to War of the Realms which wasn't written by Cates. Honestly, it's fine. It works well enough as a standalone book that you can read it independent of the main event.
The Absolute Carnage tie ins aren't really needed, but they do enough expand on some ideas. Originally, Absolute Carnage was going to be just the third act, not an event.
The third arc is Venom Island and it's actually kind of great. Bagley does art and it's effectively a follow-up to the era where Venom was stuck on the island during the 90's.

Honestly, overall it's a good run.
I'd recommend getting Silver Surfer Black too. It's not too important, but it does add to the Knull mythos

    You didn't understand my question.
In my first post, I asked about his Venom serie and about his Marvel Cosmic series.

In my previous post I asked about the Marvel Comics vol.2, which the content is not yet known, not the Venom, which the content is already well known.

For your information, the Silver Surfer Black, is in the Marvel Cosmic by Donny Cates vol.1.

    Ah sorry, my apologies.
Yeah, his Cosmic stuff is pretty great. Silver Surfer Black and Cosmic Ghost Rider are personal highlights.
Looking at the collection, there's not really a bad comic. Thanks Legacy serves as a kind of pilot to his Guardians run.
Volume 2 will include his guardians run (1-12 plus the annual), it's honestly okay. I enjoyed it, but it's not the best thing ever made.

I have no idea what else it will contain. Maybe some of his Thor stuff as the start of that took a cosmic turn, and it goes into Thanos a bit as well.

    Honestly, I don't think we'll see Vol 2 for a while.

    I’ve only read 2 series…

Death of The Inhumans = hideously bad
Silver Surfer Black = instant classic

    Hello again.

Anyone would have a complete reading order of Donny Cates' work ?
What should be read with what, after or before ?

    I've not read Doctor Strange, but I'll go in this order;

Thanos 13-18 + Annual (This serves as a thesis to his run).
    Cosmic Ghost Rider 1-5
Death of the Inhumans 1-5 (Not really vital, but it references Cosmic Ghost Rider at some point).
Thanos Legacy (Kind of a tie in to Infinity Wars, but it can be read independent, serves as a pilot to Guardians).
    Guardians of the Galaxy 1-6
    Silver Surfer Black 1-5
Guardians of the Galaxy Annual 1, 7-12
    Thor 1- On-going

His Venom is largely independent, only really having ties with Silver Surfer Black.
    Venom Order;
    Venom 1-6, Annual 1
    Web of Ven'am
    Venom 7-12
(Venom 13-15 isn't be Cates and is a tie in to War of the Realms).
Web of Venom: Carnage Born, Cult of Venom
    Venom 16
    Absolute Carnage 1,2
    Venom 17
    AC 3
    Venom 18
    AC 4
    Venom 19
    AC 5
    Venom 20-25
    Web of Venom: Wraith
    Venom 26-30
    King in Black 1
    Venom 31
    KIB 2
    Venom 32
    KIB 3
    Venom 33
    KIB 4
    Venom 34
    KIB 5
    Venom 35 (200)

There's a few more Web of Venom comics, but not all of them are important.
    Hope this helps regardless.

    Thanks for the order.
What is your opinion on each title ?
I'd like to know if it's really must have material or only part of it is must I have.
I've read that only his Strange, his Thonos/Cosmic Ghost Rider, the start of Venom and his Thor are really good, what do you think ?

Venom+Web of...+Absolute Carnage+ King in Black are all great, some of the best stuff I've read in a while.
Cosmic Ghost Rider is also great.
Silver Surfer Black is one of the best looking books I've read.
Thanos Wins was a lot of fun
Guardians of the Galaxy was okay, certainly the weakest of his work however.
Death of the Inhumans is the best Inhumans arc... make of that what you will.
And his Thor is great, but it doesn't hit me as hard as his other works.

Hopefully he gets Spider-Man at some point, but in the meantime, I look forward to his Hulk.

Thanks. I might fall for his Mavel Cosmic Omnibus and his 3 Venom HC.
