Dick and Damian as the Dynamic Duo was also had a great high concept - Robin has become Batman, and the old Batman's son has become the new Robin.
Plus you also had the flip of a relatively light-hearted Batman paired with a darker, moodier Robin - Morrison explicitly highlighted that in some of his interviews.
Bruce and Damian is basically - a dark, moody, violent guy has to deal with his darker, moodier and even more violent son. Which is not an uninteresting premise, but to me at least, doesn't quiet match the brilliance of the Dick and Damian pairing.
This might sound a little on the drastic side, but since Damian seems to have left the role of being Batman's partner (at least when it comes to Bruce as Batman), is it time for DC to consider creating a new "Robin" who would be more compatible as a working partner with Bruce's Batman?
Wouldn't have to be another under-age kid . . . just somebody to be a new "Robin" and would be an alternative to all the past Robins who may not work any longer as Batman's (semi-)regular partner.
Dc doesn't want Robin partnered with batman. that's why the 90's Robin series was launched, why Batman and Robin series was a limited series and why Tynion wasn't allowed to have Tim be more of a presence in his Batman run.
If DC want's Batman to have a partner there's a cave full of heroes to choose from, Signal, Batwing, Spoiler, Orphan, RR, Jarro, Blue Bird.
IMO, The only Bruce/Robin pairing that really worked was Bruce and Dick. Bruce doesn't need a Robin joined at his hip anymore, and he hasn't needed it for 30+ years.
All I personally want is for Bruce and Dick to work together every once in a while.
Well because now instead of having Batman & Robin you could have...
Batman & Nightwing
Batman & Red Hood
Batman & Drake
Batman & Batgirl
Batman & Batwoman
Batman & Batwing
Batman & Orphan
Batman & Spoiler
Batman & Azrael
Batman & Huntress
Batman & Signal
Batman & Bluebird
Batman & Gotham Girl
Batman & Catwoman
Batman & Harley Quinn
