Was anyone else aware that Hobie Brown/Prowler is now the new Hornet?

Apologies if that has been talked about around here but I'm pretty far behind on my comics but I just read it in Planet of the Symbiotes # 2 which was a King in black tie-in book. Personally I'm not really against the change but I don't really see how going from The Prowler to The Hornet will make the character more interesting to readers or writers.




Anyone have any thoughts on this change they would like to share?

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me that they decided to rebrand Hobie, as Aaron Davis, Miles's uncle, is also the Prowler, and probably a better known one at this point.

I didn't know he was in Planet of the Symbiotes though.

It was a pretty good read. Geoffrey Thorne, known on CBR as "Redjack," did a decent job with him, in my opinion. And yeah, I would blame the popularity of Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Miles Morales (the PS4/5 game by Insomniac Games) for Hobie being overshadowed by Aaron. Still waiting for a meeting between the two Prowlers, though.

As a fan of Hobie (and continuity), I like the switch and think it makes sense, what with Aaron Davis establishing himself as the Prowler.

As a fan of the Slingers, I'm sad that this is yet another obstacle to the rebirth of Eddie McDonough, who didn't deserve such a gruesome and thoughtless fate.

Kinda cool if so. Like, reclaiming his own product. But I admit, I prefer Hobie as the Prowler, even if Miles uncle ganked it.

Your recollection is correct -- Hobie created the initial Hornet suit/jetpack but didn't have the strength to wear it.

It'll be interesting to see what the next writer to use Hobie does with him.

Identity Crisis was also used for Spider-Man too. Parts 1 through 4 ran over Amazing, Sensational, spectacular and Peter Parker:Spider-Man, in which one issue revealed his new identities as Hornet, Dusk, etc.

Is Miles's Uncle (Ultimate Prowler i guess) still in posession of one of the Iron Spider suits??? I really don't follow too much to do with Miles but i did notice that and figured that was his new identity going forward.

No, he returned it when he changed back to Prowler. So Tony should have it.
