    Default Spider-man 69 review

    Spoilers ahead

Just read the issue and it was disappointing.

    Not much happens.

Spider-man fights to buy Jamie some time but gets betrayed by him.

Spider-man is offered help by Doc but says he needs someone else and goes to Ned.

The Foreigner get betrayed by Jack O lantern and half the folks at the casino because they work for the finisher.

The finisher didn't die because of his resources and help from his student Dimitri(Chameleon).Don't know if this is a new revelation or an old thing.

I think Finisher , Chameleon and teresa are teleported to a place which Chameleon didn't want to go to.We see entire groups of people with chameleon face masks in different (civilian) clothes.Finisher says that they will now discuss the truth about her and addresses her as Agent Parker.

After all that we get Ock bringing Electro back to life saying he can't ever truly die and exists all around us.Kindred says every day otto is close to revealing his true self and says he can see it and it's blinding.

Also betrayal seems like a theme with Boomerang and now Jamie. Also Sandman and Lizard are also sorta his allies rn.Also Foreigner betraying Silver Sable.

Again like with King's ransom seems like they will save all the big reveals for the Giant Size.I was hoping we could get the truth about Teresa in this issue.

I'm really hating that we're digging all the way back to 'Peter Parker's Parents Were Spies'. stuff and I just ... *augh*. Why are we going back to one of the very worst twists in the Spidey canon? It was, is, and remains terrible.

I don't mind the parents as much as the spy sister and I think Spencer is going to change that.
He is addressing as much as possible. It does seem very risky but will pay off since when any of these characters will be used in the future no matter how popular or obscure people can just go read their part in this run and get a good understanding of them.
This run sees to me like a transitional run and one that will leave the next writer with all of BND and Slott's messes cleaned up to tell their own story but has enough plot points that can be explored in the future.

The only notable thing about the parents should be that they're not in his life.

It addresses the fact Peter let those missiles hit Finishers car. That he hadn't truly died. That was one blemish whereby people said, "see! Peter directly murdered him." Now we know he survived and Peter is squeaky clean. Even though he was ambivalent towards Finishers fate.

This issue was a tad disappointing. It was just build up.

I mean, did we really need to address that? This feels like Spencer just checking things off his 'fix list'.

His whole run has been a fix it list.

It might be important for whatever he has planned with Kindred. Now we know Peter has one less blemish on his soul with Finisher being alive. Just my theory. Otherwise there is no real reason for him to address that bit of history.

Now Chameleon is tied even closer to Peter's history with him being a pupil of Finisher.

The issue did suck but my god do some fans complain about the weirdest things. It’s totally fine to kill Kraven and replace him with a clone in a franchise that’s rife with clones but my god don’t have Peter’s parents be spies. In the end, who really cares what they were? They haven’t been relevant since the 90’s LMD’s and before that how relevant were they? Can we complain about Peter being stuck in a jobless rut? That’s a boring trope. Can we complain about how this issue solves nothing and it’s just more questions and disappointments?

Did I say that was fine too? Don't put words in my mouth. I don't like Peter's parents being spies. I think it's a dumb twist, and I have a virulent dislike for anything that confers notability on Parker's birth legacy. I didn't like his dad being an Oscorp Super Scientist in Amazing Spider-Man either. :P

Peter’s father was a scientist in the ultimate universe. Did you hate that too? Would you prefer Richard and Mary Parker to be no one with no job sitting around all day crying about Parker Luck?

It depends. I'd prefer his family background be more working class. Plenty of 'working scientists' out there. As long as it doesn't loop back to his origins as Spider-Man too cleanly like they shot at in the movies. Meanwhile, in today's economy, being under employed would be pretty normal for any number of people, no matter how good their educational background.

Parker's real parents are May and Ben, and spending too much time on his 'biological' parents is never useful.

Well, I guess you really can't ignore the parents so long as Teresa is around.

Yup.They were necessary to mention imo because they maybe retconning Teresa's origin to be a sleeper agent.

I don't disagree with that and it was my principle concern with her introduction as a character. Nobody is gonna be pleased with the impending outcome, I think.
