Title: Nightwing (Vol. 2, issues # 140 to 153)

A run that was cut far too short. These arcs were paramount in helping rebuild Nightwing back into a premiere character after his character assassination.

Title: New Teen Titans
Creators: Marv Wolfman & George Perez
In 1980, the world of comics was changed forever when writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez unleashed the The New Teen Titans. At the time, Titans was the most unlikely of hits, essentially a reboot of a series that, at the time, perhaps felt more like a relic of the 1960s. But under their stewardship, The New Teen Titans became a mega success, and it ultimately went on to change everything we knew about DC Comics and superhero comics in general.

Grant Morrison's Batman, 2006-2013.
Scott Snyder, Batman: The Black Mirror.
Scott Snyder, Batman from The New 52.
Ed Brubaker/Greg Rucka, Gotham Central.
Greg Rucka, Batwoman: Elegy.
Let's see if we can stick to every poster recommending ONE title.
I certainly have many, many titles that are favorites of mine, but it's a more meaningful thread if everyone is forced to pick one.
I like to make it easy for people rather than overloading them with homework. There are some writers who only did a handful of stories for a character, yet those stories were great. It's not the quantity, it's the quality.
Case in point, Alan Brennert on Batman. You can read every Batman story he did in the 2016 hardcover, TALES OF THE BATMAN: ALAN BRENNERT.
If you want to be picky and say that's not a run--because it comes from diverse titles--then out of those comics, I would pick his run on THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD--issues 178, 181, 182 and 197.
What do we have here so far (I’ll delete the images to save space)
Nightwing 1996 absolutely! I have to put that on my reading list!
Back in the day, I read Denny O Neil’s Nightwing mini in 1995 that was going to kick off his regular series.
(There were exciting rumours at the time that Nightwing would be the next hero to advance to his own title.)
Chuck Dixon is also one of my all time favourite writers for his work on the original Birds of Prey, so why didn’t I read this series at the time?
Timing, zero hour happened, Hal went insane and was replaced, the Legion timeline was wiped out, and as much as I love Dixon’s work on Green Arrow, he was given the marching orders to kill off Green Arrow, so after that I quit DC comics. Hello Marvel!
Ironically it was Dixon that brought me back when I heard about BOP through the grapevine, but it wasn’t until Kevin Smith brought Ollie back that I started collecting again.
Interesting! I’ve never actually collected a Spectre series, but I’ve always been curious as to what villains are actually a threat to such an omnipotent being? In short, who does the Spectre fight?
Pre Mark Waid! I still have my Flash #1 sealed and back boarded.
Got to love Jonah Hex! Or any hero that can have a solid run separated from the rest of the DCU. I had no idea about the existence of this title, but now that I’m aware of it, I’ll be sure to check it out!
When it comes to mentioning the most classic DC runs of the 90’s, next to Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, James Robinson’s Starman is always mentioned. I’ve known so many people who have sworn by this series as the best comic run they have read.
Mr Terrific! One of my favourite JSA heroes from Robinson’s 1999 reboot. Written by Jeff Lemire to....great writer! I was also informed that Ted Kord was on the team?
I confess this is on my list, I read the first JSA reboot run by Johns, but by this time I was winding down my titles a bit, but anything with Sandman on the cover is a must read for me. Geoff Johns for me, is probably the best DC writer of the 2000’s.
I absolutely love Greg Rucka! (Even though he killed off one of my all time favourite heroes) but believe it or not, in all my decades of collecting comics I have never collected a Wonder Woman run. (I think primarily because I’m so invested in Black Canary, Zatanna and Huntress) so I’m curious.
Is there a definitive Wonder Woman run that everyone agrees on is the greatest?
Thanks guys, some great entries! Keep them coming, they can be from any decade. Recent or all the way back to the golden age decades, cheers.
Power Girl (Palmiotti-Gray)
Detective (Englehart, Barr, Grant)
Nightwing (Taylor)
Catwoman (Brubaker)
Impulse (Waid)
Young Justice (David)
Keep in mind that you have about as much chance of changing my mind as I do of changing yours.
I love this run so much and a few other Batbook issues from around this time.
I won't spoil things with Ted. He's not on the core team, but he does have a ather important role later in the story and in the annual/special issues.
