Default What Superheroes would you like to see in a post-apocalyptic setting?

Just read Wonderwoman the Dead Earth, and was pondering how great, the mixing of Superheroes and post apocalyptic setting usually works. These stories tend to be about Superheroes (characters who usually always succeed in the end) dealing with existential failure. What Superheroes would you like to see in a post apocalyptic setting?
    Me personally,
Legion of Superheroes: they kind of dabbled with this in the 5 years later era of book, but I always though a post apocalyptic counterpart to the usually utopian Legion would be cool. The Legion always felt like a Club of teen Superheroes hanging out in an idealized future. My idea would flip that and turn them into roving gang of Super Robin Hoods in a post apocalyptic galaxy.
Not sure if I’d want it as a in continuity run or an elseworld though.

I'm really not a fan of post-apocalyptic stories (hell, the present can be pretty depressing as it is), but I use to like the old-school Atomic Knights stories.

Okay here me out here....but what about Orion son of darkseid. Say Darkseid finally won and caused the end of the earth and one of the last living souls on the planet is none other then Orion, does he help the last of humanity, get revenge against Darkseid, or simply stop and give in to the end of everything.

None, it's genre that's been done to death. IMO, that horse they keep flogging is starting to stink.

If I had to, a version of the Outlaws would be about perfect fit for it.

But like achilles above; not a fan of the genre.

There are several stories of superheroes in post-apocalyptic worlds; Superman, Batman, Wonder woman, the JLA and yes they are fun to read, as the causes of the apocalypsis is changed from time to time, that landscape is kinda similar. (In present time, the Legion 5YL was more like cyberpunk landscape, and in the line of the DKR deconstruction).

Maybe an elseworld of the JSA returning in a post apocalyptic earth would be interesting to read.

Jonah Hex, Lobo, Green Arrow, Constantine

I would be interested to see one with Shazam, I wonder how he might react to that.

Either Gold or Silver Age versions of Hawkman and Hawkwoman are perfect for it. Kind of a Sword Of The Atom vibe to it.

I could also see Challengers Of The Unknown for it. They were so futuristic, it makes a nice juxtaposition.

Cyborg building his own civilization in a post-apocalypse DC landscape to protect the defenseless against mad-maxian warlord versions of various DC villains and their descendants.

I know he technically had one with Tales from The Dark Multiverse, but I think a Duke Thomas post-apocalypse story that centers his immortality would be amazing. like maybe using what he learned from Bruce, Duke teamed up with Gnomon formed their own immortal house to team up with the Immortal Men.
THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki

also, check out "The Signal Tape" a Duke Thomas fan project.

    currently following:
    • DC: Red Hood: The Hill
    • Marvel: TBD
    • Manga (Shonen/Seinen): One Piece, My Hero, Dandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Reincarnation of The Veteran Soldier, Oblivion Rouge, ORDEAL, The Breaker: Eternal Force

Aquaman could be fun. Both in a Mad Max type world where he has found alternative ways of relying on water, and in a Waterworld type scenario where he's the only superhero around but there are ruins of everyone else and he's trying to bring back the non aquatic world.

Batman: Ras Al Ghul succeeds in his plans and manages to wipe out 95% of humanity. He and his followers seclude themselves in a domed city leaving Batman to mourn in the ruins. If grief stricken Bruce driven mad by the loss attempts to avenge the world by taking down Ras and his new 'paradise city' would Batman be the villain of the story?

Wonder Woman: A WW based on Kingdom Come but even darker and bleaker. Diana fails in her mission, the world destroyed itself in war, she is exiled from Paradise Island and cut off entirely from the Gods, she loses her lasso of truth and now wanders the world with her sword. Is there any redemption for her or does she become the thing that she fought against?
