    "Daughter of Time" was groundbreaking.

Basically, an injured detective solves a historical mystery (whether King Richard III of England killed his nephews.)

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Yeah, the original stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Have you tried any of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct novels?
What about Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon?
    Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep?
And there are many, many more depending on what type of mystery, when it takes place, etc. etc.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie.

With And Then There Were None by the same author as a close second.

“The Night of the Jabberwock”. It’s fun mystery as always with Fredric Brown (who does also fun SF).

I enjoy the Cadfael series by Ellis Peters (aka Edith Pargeter).

So, it's about a year later. Did you try any of our suggestions? Find anything you liked?

I did make time for The Glass Key. None of its adaptations have lived up to it.

Ohhhh... I swear I was going to post exactly the same when I saw the thread's question

Two awesome titles. I've read many others from Agatha Christie but those two are her best, in my opinion. The third one from her would be The ABC Murders, potentially

There was a TV show about those novels, right? Do you know if it's any good or if the novels are the way to go?

Both good. I prefer the novels, but that’s probably my usual bias (in favour of books) kicking in.
