Default Chameleon Conspiracy Giant Size review

    It's bad, like really bad.
No answers were given, left open ended.

    SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

Ned has beef with Foreigner.Tries to kill him but Spidey stops him and he goes back to betty. No real answers but I think it has to do with the serum.

Teresa is a chameleon(I think).Finisher has a school for them. It's all convoluted and no real answers are given, they say anything can be brainwashing or a lie.Left open ended.
We do get a Brother-sister(if she is still that) moment.

Finisher says Teresa need the clairovoyant for answers, Spidey trusts her with it(Jamie gave it to him earlier) but she just destroys it, says she will go after the Foreigner.

Sables's coming to NY city. She figured what foreigner was doing and closed the accounts.

The flying casino is full of chameleon's.Most of the Jack O' lanterns are chameleons.
    The flying casino crashes.

Foreigner is mad and wants payback.
Taskmaster and black ant are working for him now.

    The ending is interesting.
Chameleon is still in jail, and gets visited by kindred and asks for "another does of a serum"
Chameleon is smug and says he needs to maintain his appearances and all.
Kindred says he knows his true face.
Chameleon calls him Osborn.Says they can "make a deal and it's always a pleasure to do business with him again".

Otto goes to savage land and finds Kraven, then offers him the lizard.

Oh this issue wasn't it. Honestly nothing really gets answered. The only good thing is that the plot about the clairvoyant is finally done. More kindred teasing too apparently chameleon matters to him. Well sinister war is next hopefully it's more exciting than this arc. This arc is probably the second worst one of the run after 2099.

This is a repost from the preview thread

    No real answers.
People are defending this run because "Spencer is god" but hated when we got this no answer crap from the Clone Saga. Spencer can't leave soon enough. I'm done with this trash.

I have a lot of problems with Spencer’s run, and one thing really stands out besides the layer upon layer of story, “Pathetic Parker” and “Damsel In Distress” is the failure to close. I hate stories ( and not just comic books) with no ending or the writer, director etc wants you to figure it out. Time is a precious commodity I have little of and I hate wasting it. I really hope I am wrong, but I see a lot of open ended stuff left for the new Spider-Man team ( and that means not just OMD). We might get lucky if Kindred is finished ( although I am starting to doubt thet).

The problem with Spencer’s run has been that while there have been some “highs” they don’t last. There have been some fantastic Peter/MJ moments but there are so far and few in between. The Kindred stuff started out intriguing as hell but just ran on for too long. Spencer has had so much potential with some plot points but just doesn’t deliver on them. Last Remains for instance could have been a classic but ended up disappointing.

While I’m not completey excited for him leaving the way you are (simply for the fear of what might come next) I understand that it might be time for the guy to move on. This doesn’t feel like a “Spider-Man” title anymore.

This issue itself and the arc was bad.
His run has been decent to great.

Also S.W. is going to be a banger.Because there is literally no more waiting.Last arc.

And clone saga was way longer and it created a mess whereas Spencer is cleaning other's peoples mess up.

    Agreed.
I still like it because even though Spider-man is not in it as much as he should be the stuff he's in is excellent. It's great to have this specially after slott.

And the Beyond thing is sounding worse. And BMB after that as well.

The problem is Spencer continues to tease the “clean up” process but doesn’t clean anything up. How long has this padded Kindred stuff gone on? You have mephisto show up with a hell of a cliffhanger and then nothing from there at all. Absolutely nothing. Spencer’s run just has to many of these low points sprinkled through out to be truly be considered great.

There was some tremendous potential to deliver some classics with Last Remains but it’s all just fallen flat. He’s fantastic when writing Peter/MJ but it’s just not often enough. Add on to the fact that this title doesn’t even seem as if it’s about Spider-Man at times.

I think Spencer has just run his course and it might be time. Hopeful that he can at least end on a strong note. The character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man just deserves better then the treatment he’s gotten. The title deserves better.

Not read this issue yet, but I'll be honest, this arc has been a dud. At least it reads really fast, but it feels like this was three different arcs thrown into one. It feels incredibly rushed and just adds to belief that Spencer was taken off the book.
I think that''s my major problem with this arc, the ideas in it are actually pretty good. I like what they did with Ned, but this shouldn't be a reveal in #68. Ned Leeds should have come back around #30.
Chameleon should have been the big bad instead of Sin Eater for "Year Two", but he is just used a throw in for his own story.

This is meant to be the penultimate arc, yet it feels like they are just rushing things to get to an ending.
I don't know who is to blame. Whether it be Spencer for not writing good stories, Brisson for not turning in good scripts or editorial for rushing these last few issues out, but I'm tired. I've enjoyed Spencer's run, and I feel like this is just a speck in his run. It's a shame it's come so late into his run, but I'm not looking forward to Sinister War.

I do think the problems are bigger than Spencer. I do think this is an editorial problem. I don't know how much Lowe is to blame as he also edited Venom and that was great. So I don't know if this is a case where these books are not getting the focus as there are other, critically acclaimed books coming out that they can spend their time on.

I'm actually looking forward to Beyond, just to give us new writers who hopefully aren't overworking themselves and bringing out sub-par books. Something is happening with Spider-Man and I don't know where the problem lays.

He cleaned up the queen cat mess.
Brought back MJ and peter(slott did his best to drive them apart).
Gave Kraven some semblance of closure as best it could be done.
Gog was a great parallel to Spider-man's kid specially when he caught him and the inner monologue.
    There are a couple others

And OMD is the main thing. And it will be addressed imo.

And I agree, the title deserves better but it looks like it's going to get worse.

The Chameleon Conspiracy has been a real dud arc. For me this book's quality has dropped. The last arc I'd say was truly great was Sins Rising/The Return of Norman Osborn. Give me the first half of Spencer's run to the second part.

Ah so Theresa is a Chameleon grunt in denial and seemingly making a heel turn because of her denial about it. If that doesnt come into play as the arc concludes, seems like it's open ended enough for another writer to do whatever they want with the story, either continuing or undoing it.

A meandering resolution is so tiresome and makes the whole arc feel pointless, only real highlights seem to be Chameleon, Taskmaster, and Black Ant all involved in the finale of the run, which seems very crowded as is.

My thoughts on Nick Spencer's ASM run:

Nick got the voices particularly Peter, MJ, Norman, Kingpin and Black Cat. That's the biggest strength of the run. Spencer redeemed Black Cat from Dan Slott so that's another plus.

Back to Basics, Heist, the Gibbon story and Sins Rising, particularly #850 from that are the standout stories. Sins Rising/The Return of Norman Osborn was the last story I'd call truly great.

Pacing problems. OMD teases and Last Remains are key examples of that.

The events. Hunted and Last Remains had their moments. 2099 was truly terrible. The Chameleon Conspiracy is a dud.

The build with Kindred was memorable unlike the payoff so far.

Too many supplementary issues: Hunted, Last Remains had added extra size issues to go with what was happening in ASM. Don't forget King's Ransom and Chameleon Conspiracy getting extra large issues away from the flagship book.

You know, I really enjoyed King's Ransom. It felt like a nice "we're building up to something moment".
Chameleon Conspiracy could have been a single issue to be honest, with it leading into Sinister War.
What we really should have had was one last fun arc, maybe a fun team-up with Spider-Man and Black Cat or Miles as to go "Well, that was the end of a fun adventure, next the big stuff will go down".
Instead what we got was filler disguised (pun intended) as an important arc.

    agreed.
I think King's ransom will depend on if and how they play into S.W.
Not Miles since he is a part of Sins stuff and also will be a part of S.W. along with the rest unfortunetly.
Black Cat and Sable with Spider-man would be my pick.
