well, considering it work for serveral RL species of wasps.

although one could argue the orks also fit
considering they (the orks) are an out of control weaponized ecosystem

Wasps don't have a 1-to-1 parasitism rate. They typically have multiple spawn per victim, at least.

Mathematically, xenomorphs can never "swarm" anything, since their numbers are always a 1-1 collelation to the host species.

Just FYI, I had asked about firearms and here's an article on the gun in Tomorrow War. Aliens used modified Thompsons and Starship Troopers used Rugers.

True, but they can spawn from animals smaller than humans (like a dog, as seen in Alien 3). So if there are many small animals available for infection, they are not limited directly to the numbers of their primary opposition. Were they to establish a nest in the Amazon rainforest, for example, they could produce a ton of xenos without direct contact with humans.

I think the 7 billion humans on earth outnumber or at least are close to all other medium-sized animals combined. Even a place like the Amazon would not have the population density. You'd have to utilize insects and smaller mammals, like rodents, but face-huggers have no feats for parasitizing those.

It's roughly parity from what I could find in a few minutes of searching. Of course, on a more local level they can have a tremendous numerical advantage, say at a feed lot. It is really only in the cities where you have more people than animals. If they swarm a town from the neighboring cattle ranch though (like in Alien vs. Predator: Prey), they can wipe out any local resistance and add to their own numbers. They are not able to reproduce on the level of something like Tyranids that can convert biomass, but they can get pretty out of hand.
