Nubia & the Amazons #5 Variant by Alexis Franklin
She looks a little like Sunny Hostin to me

With Nubia and Bloodlines, not only has Medusa made a pretty significant return to the Wonderverse, but I like how the writers are expanding her abilities from simply just petrification. I also like the idea of Medusa being a product of the brutality of Man's World which caused her monstrosity. So appropriate for a Wonder Woman villain and her mission.
I wonder if Nubia's future will somehow play into the backup for Wonder Woman that month. I imagine they need to set up the upcoming Trial from Themyscira's perspective, as well.

I know how things work. If you do not give a character X amount of powers, it's a problem. Basically, if you don't do exactly what someone exactly wanted you to do, then it's a problem, but the thing is, it's still my story to tell, just as though if you had that same opportunity, it would be your story to tell. So, although things have been overwhelmingly positive for Nubia, I take it for what it is, then I move on to the very next thing because you kinda have to do that. Ask me this question again, maybe four months from now. It'll be the same thing, but a little bit more, "See I told you."

So, a couple of theories:
-Nubia was born on the same day Diana was, became Champion and Guardian of Doom's Doorway. The mind control plotline still happened but it was by Medusa and that explains the gap in her memories. She was Medusa's pawn at some point.
-One or two of the new Amazons will be traitors while the others will serve as allies in the coming conflict.
-Medusa will reveal something that will lead the Amazons to doubt Athena and the Goddesses as well as their new Queen. Hence 'Trial of the Amazons' since the Amazons will splinter into different factions and will come into conflict with the other Amazons tribes.
Must be a flashback where she goes to Midway City.
Theory time:
-Nubia was the Champion before Diana.
-She went to Midway City for a mission after successfully completing the competition.
-She met the newly introduced Amazonian characters during said mission.
-*Something* goes wrong during the mission and Nubia dies.
-Then she is reborn from the Well of Souls again on the same day Diana is born.
It could be that Nubia's brainwashing by Ares happened when she was an adult and a champion and not when she was an infant in this iteration. Only this time, it was Medusa and not Ares.
This is why she will always and forever be our Wonder Woman.

Even if it isn't, it's nice to know she isn't on JK Rowling's bullshit.
(hmmm, I wonder if Trans Best Friend is going to be the new Gay Best Friend in upcoming Hollywood adaptations?)
