I was a bit disappointed by this, having been a huge fan of PAD's original run on the series. It felt more like a Nicieza series than a PAD series to me.

I liked the art but it's suffers the the same problem that the original PAD Captain Marvel series had in that Genis is largely a supporting character to Rick and Marlo story.
If Genis is to ever evolve into a fully realised character they need to cut this thread as it has the same issue his dad's old series had, writers not knowing how to make an alien character relatable so they rely on Rick Jones to serve as the viewpoint but at the cost of making the title character less of a protagonist more of a glorified power-up.
Having read all the Captain Marvel runs now I see why Carol been the most successful because say what you will unlike Mar-Vell or Genis she's very much the star of her own book and the most fleshed out of the 3.
Honestly I still think Genis was at his most interesting when he was crazy and while it's probably not great to villainise the mentally unwell he probably does work better as antagonist or at least morally grey, unstable character rather than trying make him a straight-up hero again.
So is this the real genis or is it just a clone and we're all pretending it's the real one?
I think this is PAD trying to disavow the Thunderbolts version. Maybe do a Peter/Ben thing where everyone thinks the Thunderbolts Photon version is the real version but it turns out that this Genis is the real version.
