It looks like an origin story for the Bat Pack. Which is fine for me because they are my new favorites.

I read the issue today and enjoyed it. The batpack steals the show but the red X subplot is hit or miss to me.
I thought the Red X subplot was intriguing for once since we got insight into how their mind works and reasoning. Based on their comments to the Bat Pack, I'm more convinced than ever that Red X is an established character in disguise.
If Jason wasn't still active as Red Hood, I'd say he was Red X. The entire speech about 'trust and your teachers are hiding secrets/ using you as pawns' feels like something he would say.
Red X's concerns about the kids being groomed as cannon fodder is VERY valid considering how DC treats the franchise.
Before I read issue #5, I had this similar theory was that Megabat is a metahuman and his powers and size were derived from Venom and the experiment somewhat rendered him mute whether through the experiment or trauma since Chupacabra is a Man-Bat experiment and Bratgirl seems to be normal. I thought both Megabat and Chupacabra are experiments and Bratgirl would have been experimented as well until they were saved by Nightwing. All three of them are younger counterparts of Man-Bat, Bane and Batgirl.

Yeah I actually really liked learning about the Bat-pack, they have a very interesting background for a bunch of gotham kids. My favorite is still Chupacabra, just because even though he went through a mad-scientist experiment he's genuinely excited that he's got superpowers and is now part man-bat, and for some strange reason I like the idea of a teen man-bat. I still like Red X and his story, though I will admit not a fan of the "characters can see his face but not us" part. Always bothers me.
Other then that, how the heck is it already summer vacation? 5 issues and one annual in and a terms over, how fast is this book going?
"It's fun and it's cool, so that's all that matters. It's what comics are for, Duh."
Words to live by.
