That's a really nice cover. Glad to see Rocket have her name on the book.

It didn’t go viral becuase people didn’t hate it

However I don’t want people upset a year for now wishing they had more comics like this if they don’t go buy it when it’s here

Don't have much exposure to these characters but thought this was a very solid debut issue.

    I'll 2nd that.

I want so much more for Icon personally but i enjoyed the first issue. The foundation was laid without excessive exposition. The character motivations were easily digestible. The issues that i can think of would really be nitpicking. The entrée has been served so i'm now looking forward to the main course.
    Don't complain. Create.

It was a very good first issue. A great introduction to the characters for new readers and a nice retelling for long time fans.

Aw man, I'm here for this. I'm back buying new comics with this relaunch. Gotta grab this one here asap.

Love the Darryl Banks alt cover, I hope DC would snap him up as a regular artist on Icon or a Blood Syndicate book to keep him close by until he can return to drawing Green Lantern. As for the book itself I love the property being a continuity guy not jazzed about having to go through his origin again but I understand it for business purposes. I loved the property back in the day I hope they can do right by it and hey bring back MD Bright too he is the iconic Icon artist to me.

For those who read the original, how different is this new version?

less different than the Static reboot was. Basically the same story beats except there is a little more Superman vibe in the origin and i don't recall the terrorist alien on board the ship aspect of his origin but it has been a minute. That's why while I am glad it is back the first issue gave nothing new to fans of the franchise besides it being back. Raquel and Augustus had developed a deep relationship over the years going back to ground zero costs a lot of that complexity. It wasn't perfect the first time around but I hope I am not stuck with a simple retelling of original beats with some editorial and modernizing changes. Green Lantern year one and Batman year one stories are cool for a short arc but what makes Bane and Ra's great rogues are their history with Batman. Starting from scratch costs you a lot of that but I am always more team Continuity over team Reboot.

I am curious why DC is selling the Milestone compendiums if the new titles are redoing all the origins. I know I know cash grab from the old head Milestone original fans but those books really have nothing to do with the new retellings. I get from a business standpoint why you don't go Icon #42 but yeah there's that she has just met Augustus no kid yet we are starting from scratch.

So far, Icon is less of a Republican.

I hope they show his Conservative side because it really adds to the characters uniqueness and helps differentiate him more from simply being "Black Superman."
