I'd add Donna Troy. Maybe in a supporting role she can get some respect and character development she never gets as a full time hero.

I-Ching would be another good choice imo. Get WW involved in mystical MA shenanigans and interacting w. some different deities from other pantheons. Maybe expand her rogues galleries w. villains like Kobra, King Snake etc. Plus it'd be fun to see I-Ching and Julia Kapetalis hit it off romantically maybe, or at least explore that option and become friends.

What do people like about General Darnell?

I don't think anyone necessarily likes him, we just appreciate that he was one of the only regular supporting characters from her earliest days. Only he, Steve, Mala, Etta, Paula, and Hippolyta can really say that.

I did consider Donna, though I'm not really sure if it'd be as a more traditional "sidekick" role or more like what Jimenez was going for in his run.

Yeah it's more that Darnell has OG status. He's not nearly as well defined or developed as even Steve or Etta were back then, but he was always around. And filled a role that a lot of others keep filling: General Hilary, Michaelis, Sasha Bordeaux, Sarge Steel, etc. It's gotten to the point where we might as well use him since they keep wanting to fill the space he left.

Though I'd make him sort of a father figure to Steve and keep Michaelis around as Steve's peer/friend. Matt should fill the role Etta fills now in modern stories whereas I'd prefer Etta to be a civilian. I'd also have Darnell be a love interest for Julia: he'd be around her age and she's single, so why not? It'd give Nessie something else to angst about too ("A step-dad? My mom is having sex?! Ewww!" *becomes Silver Swan*)

My idea would be a combination of Amazons and regular humans. One of my first comics was John Byrne's run so I always default to that cast but replace Mike with Steve Trevor and add in Etta Candy.
