I have to wonder, though, whether the series will pick up where the last issue left off or just start in with an all-new story arc, ignoring the cliffhanger that ended the previous run.

I just found out about this today.
Kudos to Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to decide to resume the story before the rest of the creative staff died of old age or retired from comics.
(Something tells me that he really wants to do the tv show comic and Archie was like... 'but, what about...?')
