Yeah, but if you... man, we're getting into weird analogy territory, like if you disintegrated Superman's arms he wouldn't be able to go "fool! Little did you know that my arms and I are one and can be remade from me!" and will his arms back into being from pure nothingness. - Pendaran

I agree with this. They seem easy enough to block, the gas mask being a fine example of such. I just disagreed with the face shape hypothesis.
The enormous building size Starro may be able to latch on to the Cloverfield monster, but I don't think it has feats of direct mind control through its own body, just the smaller versions it sends out. I would say Starro's only possible chance of winning is to somehow latch on to the monster's face and suffocate it (it clearly breathes, as seen right before it eats Hud). I think the Cloverfield monster is far more likely to tear Starro to pieces before it can do so though. So, minute chance of Starro victory if the CM goes for a bite and Starro is able to latch on to its face.
Polka Dot Man's dot did a job on Starro's foot. I don't know how super powered they were but I doubt they were equal to a wave of JDAMs that Clover shrugged off.
