RIP Claremont the 3rd.
The writing was on the wall, sadly. Clearly something is very rotten at the kingdom of Marvel.
Yeah, Percy would be the worst case scenario because he's the one writer that just doesn't seem to get Krakoa, I think. His book is more of the same of gratuitous death and violence and deconstruction, just with more plants.
I guess the only thing that I’m confused about is how writers wanting Krakoa to stay would have such a huge affect. When HOX/POX came out it was advertised as something that could affect the line for the next 10 years so that’s a little off to me.
Also it’s gonna sting a little to see him on another Marvel title that isn’t X-Men (what hasn’t he written yet). Each issue of Inferno is huge so we might have most of our lingering questions answered, but guess we won’t know till September.
I'm sad to see him go, but happy we get to keep Krakoa for the foreseeable future. Also glad Hickman was involved with the plans for the next couple of years.
I still feel like he'll pop over from time to time. I'm sure once it approaches what would've been his third act.
"starting in January the X-Line will rocket forward starting with a weekly series that leads into the very cool, refocused, line of books."
I could see Excalibur going away. It's never felt very central to the line. Maaaaaaybe New Mutants. I guess Hellions, maybe? I really enjoy that book, but is the thread of Sinister/Chimeras enough to keep it going in a "refocused" line? X-Men, X-Force, S.W.O.R.D., and Marauders seem to serve pretty definitive narrative goals.
Also seems like some people think this is the end of the Krakoa period. I don't get that feeling.
Chances are it will be worse, because now people will keep wondering how the whole thing would have worked if it was laser focused from HOX/POX until it's end. If there was no need to stretch things out or create satelite titles which felt like they were treading water and added nothing really important to "main story" that these two books established.
And in their minds fans might develop this wonderfull illusionary interpretation that will sound better and grander for them than what Hickman might have even had planned at all.
I hope this is like Morrison's departure where the concepts he left such as making the mansion an actual school, doesn't get abandoned but continued on. I really want Krakoa to exist for more years.
He says he's still doing stuff for Marvel, just not X-Men. Wonder what's next...
Well it seems he’s going to still work on Marvel projects but I think he just wants less collaborative stuff that doesn’t require coordinating so much. Hope he does well
He said he wanted to transition to phase 2 but everyone said stay on phase 1. Do you think he means other writers? He mentioned the issue of collaboration in his previous statement. I wonder if maybe he means editors and writers or was forced to slow down to accommodate the other books
Hopefully Secret Wars 2.
Feeling really mixed about this, I've been loving Hickman but at the same time I feel like Krakoa being the new paradigm is the best thing that can happen to the X-men and if him leaving solidifies it I guess that can be for the best on the long run
Also some people are rightfully owed a few "I told you so's" with all the solicits saying Inferno is the "culmination" of Hickmans run.
It was supposed to go on longer and have more phases.
Probably editors wanted to squeeze the current status quo for all it's worth. This whole situations is very typical of the worst tendencies among the Big 2 where a writer who is doing the legwork and bringing in money has his work hijacked by editors who have their own ideas.
