As long as Krakoa era doesn’t end and they stay on task with the threads he launched in HoX/PoX I’m semi ok with it. I just don’t want to see the line revert to that old status quo. So many questions are still unanswered, why is Jean wearing that costume and what does it symbolize? We still don’t know.

And his actual X-men comics were far from the greatest ever. HoX PoX was good. The X-men ongoing had one or two great issues, but most months the series was outshined by other X-books.
His biggest contribution was Krakoa and it would feel rushed if that status quo ended so soon. Hickman is often too focused on plot, so it's understandable that he wanted to move on the next phase, but I don't think it would have served the characters.

Hickman’s a great big concept guy. Sounds like he and the other writers mapped out the big concept, its various phases and added to it along the way. So they have years of stuff kind of loosely mapped out and plenty to work with. I think it’ll be fine personally. In fact, more than fine since they just brought my favorite character back.

I initially felt upset about Hickman leaving his post as the story director for the X-line. Thinking that maybe things would be reset again after Inferno, knowing that we were still in the midst of the first act, just felt wrong. I'm glad I took the time to read the entire interview. I now see that it's a great move. Not only are we going to get more of the first act fleshed out but Hickman, from the very beginning, invited all the creatives to organically collaborate and build. He's not abandoning the story. He changed the landscape and is now allowing the group to explore and play. Giving time for some cool **** to happen. They may stay on track with the overarching story that was built but maybe not. At least it's not ending. Plus, Hickman is going to do the same cool **** somewhere with other Marvel properties and still be a resource for the X-line if they need it. How is this news anywhere near bad? I feel like this was the best outcome. I get to keep enjoying the X-line and I get to look forward to what he's doing next. And how are people dismissing the other creatives so easily and even blaming them for wanting to live in this new world Hickman helped create. I find that extremely concerning and short-sighted. It's one thing if you don't like what's being presented. I understand that. But if you're enjoying the **** out of the current era, like I am, how can this development make you think that the quality is going to stop being delivered? I just don't understand a lot of the voices in this community.

The thing is the reason so many were hyped for this was HOX/POX and now that plan is gone.we didn't like X-books written by Hickman that were filler, which makes sense since it wasn't his pace and the other writers said they wanted to stay in this phase.
The X-books by themselves are mediocre at best on avg., same for the writers. They know this and thus wanted to milk Krakoa(Hickman's work) for all it's worth since there books wouldn't sell nearly as well or be hyped up if not for Hickman.
They need someone with creative vision and directional and timing sense but Idk who is even close to Hickman in that regards.

No one's asking the really important question: With Hickman gone, will Jean finally ditch the miniskirt for a real costume?!

Well its a good thing they have a vision for this era and have already mapped out whats to come with the help of Hickman. And honestly who cares if they’re milking Krakoa many readers enjoy it and would love to see it stay for a little longer

Am I the only one who thinks it fits the krakoa era?
I guess Hickman is the only other one, now that he's gone Gerry seems to want to replace it

They don't, they just want to keep the setting for as long as possible. And their vision is not gonna be remotely as close as Hickman's.
They kinda veto'd him and inferno is handing over the reigns.Hickman's plan has been left in the dust, and they have no writers even remotely close to Hickman in that regard.
It means the large overarching storyline suffers, and now it's dead.Hickman's entire arc is gone, we won't see HOX/POX level or anything near that in Krakoa future ever. It's all downhill after inferno, which itself is gonna be not as good since it's Hickman being forced to change stuff from his own idea to accomodate Krakoa.

Hickman's X-Men was incredible - he made the most worthwhile X-Men books since Morrison left nearly 20 years ago. It took this long to get another writer with an innovative vision - and now Hickman is basically forced out.

Hickman's entire draw as a creator beyond his original ideas - is his insanely detailed planning. He plans everything in extreme detail beforehand, knows his exact middle and ending - and it shows in every project hes ever written - hints are dropped from the very beginning that tie into the very end. Its his entire style. It was there in HOX/POX. And now - his plan is gone for good.

For me personally, I dont read comics of specific characters or books - instead, I follow my favorite creators - writers I trust will tell a great story. Hickman is one of the few on that list.
This is probably the most disappointing comic news I can think of in my 30+ years of collecting/reading.

Yeah, Percy would be the worst case scenario because he's the one writer that just doesn't seem to get Krakoa, I think. His book is more of the same of gratuitous death and violence and deconstruction, just with more plants.
Then why is Hickman staying at Marvel to write more stuff?
