I thought Jim Carrey was great as Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon. When I remember scenes from that movie, I tend to remember Kaufman's face instead of Carrey's.

And Judah Friedlander as Toby Radloff in American Splendor.

I saw Hal Holbrook in a live performance of Mark Twain Tonight. Never saw Mark Twain live, of course, but still left that show feeling like I'd seen Mark Twain.

I didnt care for Kauffman but I will admit that Carrey nailed him and did a great job.

Judy Davis AND Tammy Blanchard as Judy Garland in Life With Judy Garland: Me And My Shadows.

Blanchard played her in her younger years and Davis in her adult years. Both won Emmys for their performances.

Politics. Al Pacino hadn’t won an OSCAR IN 20 years since The Godfather. Washington had won one for supporting actor for Glory, but people still wanted him to win the big one for best actor. Hence he won’t it for Training Day over Russell Crowe for A Beautiful Mind, which was also seen as incredible.

If Washington had won for Malcolm X he wouldn’t have won it for Training Day. If he had won neither than he definitely would have won for Fences.

Lots of good choices. First one I thought of was "Wyatt Earp" with Kevin Costner. I mean, you've got the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the most well-documented event in the Old West as far as gunfights and no previous or subsequent movie could ever even try to get it right. Say what you will but that movie is considered the most auhtentic portrayal of a real Old West character to date.
    Power with Girl is better.

Correction: By 1992, Pacino had been a 7 time Oscar nominee with 0 wins. So, they didn't want to deny him for an 8th time.

Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

Anybody who says why someone won an Oscar, or someone else lost doesn't understand anything about how the Academy or voting works. When ever you see "They wanted" you know that person doesn't know what they are talking about. There is no "they". There are 9,000 voters, each with their own ideas.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
