    Default Doom Patrol Appreciation 2021

Dubbed the "world's strangest heroes", the Doom Patrol are a group of super-powered misfits whose "gifts" caused them alienation and trauma.

Over the years the roster has changed (with good old Cliff Steele/ Robotman being the only link to each iteration of the team).

Who has been your favorite members of the team over the years?

Of those three choices, my fave will always be The OG Doom Patrol (Arnold Drake · Bruno Premiani · Murray Boltinoff · Bob Haney):

Also, great list! But, don't forget the John Byrne team (2004):

I’m so happy that superhero tv production has reached the point where we can get a great and comic book accurate Doom Patrol show! This team is long overdue for their time in the spotlight. They’ve meant the world to me since I discovered Grant’s run as a teenager. One of the best concepts in the medium.

Any new Doom Patrol fans who are collecting the essentials should also pick up Giffen’s run. He found a way to connect the team’s whole history and the tv show has taken a lot of influence from his version of Rita. Plus it had one of the best endings to any comic series.

I loved the series when it came out. It was the first ongoing DP series I had the opportunity to read monthly.
    Severily underrated.
The Metal Men back-ups were also pretty fun.

It's really hard for me to pick a favorite run/era for the DP. My first exposure was actually an issue late in Rachel Pollack's run - not a good place to jump in! An incomprehensible story was made even worse by incomprehensible art. Several years later I found a bunch of Morrison's issues in a convention $1 bin and thought I'd give it another try. The rest is history, and I now have every issue of DP ever printed (the original series in Archives, the rest in singles).

If I had to I'd say my favorites are a tie between Morrison and Giffen, with Pollack a close 3rd. If you start at the beginning her run is really quite good, but gets dismissed for not being Morrison by far too many readers. I also grew to love Arcudi's short-lived series, even though it wasn't what I wanted from a DP book at the time.

Rest in pepperoni, Scotty Fischer. We barely even knew ye in the New 52. Honestly, he looked better there. (Don't worry, he's legal in my state.) I always imagined him as a Hawkeye sort of character, the snarker of the group. Helps they both have blonde hair.

Cliff. I thought he looked tougher in Arcudi’s run. Loved Morrison’s run. Especially the Brotherhood of Dada. Giffen’s run was good also. Way’s run was awful.

They're one of my favorite teams of all time. I wish they interacted with the wider DC Universe a bit more. That's my preference of course.

I think Pollock + Mckeever's effort is genuinely weird - one of the oddest most incomprehensible books I have ever read. Just following it panel to panel is hard. Remarkably unusual
